PlantTherapy: Arresting Floral Images by Hans Silvester

2008-08-16tribalfashion2.jpg I wanted to show a book that I saw recently at the New York Botanical Garden, Natural Fashion: Tribal Decoration from Africa by Hans Silvester. This book documents through photography how the Surma and Mursi tribes of the Omo Valley have decorated the one canvas they have available to them - their bodies.

Take a look at a few more pictures after the jump...

Although these are scenes I cannot immediately relate to, they made my pulse quicken and I was drawn into every picture. It gave me a fresh perspective on color - and flowers - and the power and need people have to creatively express themselves.

The book is available at a discount on Amazon, and I have also seen it at many of the local bookstores here in NYC.

If you cannot find a copy, then Mail Online has many photos from the book for you to enjoy.
