Chinese lantern plants, Physalis alkekengi, are one of my favorites for the fall. I love their color, the papery exterior and also the delicate lace-like skeleton that remains to gently cradle the fruit when it has worn away. When these appear at The Met I remember that they also must be at the flower shops - and that is a stop I make soon afterward.

Pretty pictures.
Not to change the subject but has anyone been to the Kiku chrysanthemum exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden? Recommended?

Yes, I've been. I'm actually playing shakuhachi there on Sundays for the spectators. The greenhouses are awesome and the chrysanthemums are impressive. The bonsai are my favorite -really world class stuff. If you go on the weekend, go early cuz it gets pretty packed.

I saw this last week while checking out the Tapestries exhibit (worth the trip -- amazing!). So glad you posted about these.
