Digital Furniture by Amanda Levete

The digitally-designed and fabricated furniture of Amanda Levete is a new kind of form-making. The furniture isn't instantly identifiable as such, appearing to be sculpture as much as anything. But on closer look and a short description, the use of each piece reveals itself:

From the top, ‘North’ is a console in neon fibreglass, ‘East’ - a corner table or desk, carved from a single piece of black marble, ‘South’ - a set of two shelves in Corian and ‘West’ is an elegant bench made from laminated wood.

Levete, of Future Systems, exhibited these four pieces in her first solo Around the Corner. This furniture makes use of the corner in interesting ways, which is always great for tiny apartments.

We like that each piece is made from a completely different material. It seems each is an experiment of sorts, seeing what can be done when each material meets digital technology.
