apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Meditation: On Dream Houses

rockgarden.jpg

When I was a child, I dreamed of houses: the treehouse, the turreted castle, the one with a secret room. Now that I am all grown up, I still dream of houses: the beach shack on Bali, the cottage in Woodstock, the neighbor's Victorian. And at drawahouse.com, all my dreams can come true, and I don't even need an architect and a gargantuan line of credit...just a lot more skill in drawing with a mouse.

You're invited to draw your own dream house on Apartment Therapy Avenue, and then come back here and tell us all about it.

Is that a pool on your roof, birdseyechili?

That was so fun. Now I'm imagining myself there, and getting a little depressed since I'm here, instead.

I think I saw Lola's Housey (number 17) in a recent issue of Dwell...

Drawing the garden is hard.

I didn't realize there was an 'undo' button until half-way through the whole thing, so my house is a real mish-mash. Half of the personality assessment was right on, and half of it couldn't be further from the truth.... Hard to draw with a mouse, especially vertical lines!

This is sort of cute, but haven't you heard of PAINT?? This isn't that novel.

Perhaps the un-identified blogster would be more successful with a roll of trash and some sort of pen or pencil. Or not.

I wasted ten minutes of my day on this and learned that according to my drawing, "I am sensitive and a freedom lover but also reserved. I'm strong but sometimes indecisive. I'm very popular and always wish to live alone but I nevertheless avoid being alone and always seek the company of others. I am tidy but my life is full of changes and I create excitement wherever I go. I am a realist, not a romantic, though I am sensuous and sexual and privately passionate. And I don't think much about myself." Right, then.

MsFlox,
That is a rocking great house!
If you wanted to be a romantic, you'd have had to put a flower in there somewhere. (But I think then that would cut down on the sensuousness - haven't noticed those together here!)
