Meditation: On Parties

16.jpg

After the AT party, do all other prospects look a bit dim in comparison? Some words of commiseration from a few selected wags:

"The cocktail party is easily the worst invention since castor oil."

--Elsa Maxwell

"The fact is, the cocktail party has much in its favor. Going to one is a good way of indicating that you're still alive and about, if such is the case, and that you're glad other people are, without having to spend an entire evening proving it."

--Peg Bracken

Partying is such sweet sorrow.

--Robert Byrne

Living in New York is like being at some terrible late-night party. You're tired, you've had a headache since you arrived, but you can't leave because then you'd miss the party.

--Simon Hoggart

I wish I could make it to the parties in NY or LA. Hey Bagdad By the Bay people, when do we get to meet up?

or Seattle people? Anyone?

ebrown, we should do a San Francisco something in January or early February. (My brain just died... it would be helpful if I suggested something, but maybe later...)

Well, I enjoyed the AT party, and I have no intention of missing any of the future ones if I can help it.

The only party that I'm going to miss this season that I'm actually sad about is the holiday party that's thrown every year by a couple of guys on my floor of my building. Their guests seem to get a kick out of stepping out of there for a minute to see the latest thing I've done to my place, so they borrowed a key so they could let them in this year for a peek, since I'm away.

Wende, February sounds good, as it's rather bleak. Gives us something to look forward to.
Anyone else in the beautiful blue Bay Area?

wende/ebrown... If you guys want to plan it for a Sunday afternoon/evening, count me in! I fly up to SF every 2 weeks for meetings on Monday mornings. (I usually stay at the W Hotel by SFMoMA.) I might even be able to convince my sister-in-law kellyo (nursery from I've Got Color contest) to join us.

There's a motivation to actually get something planned! I'm up for a Sunday, as long as it's not President's Day weekend, when I may have to go out of town (for something I'm not enthusiastic about, alas).

Works for me. Let's arrange it w/ Enrique's schedule in mind?

ebrown/wende. Let's do it! My first trip up will be either the 2nd or 3rd Sunday in January; and will be continue on an every other week cycle from there. We can try to firm up a day after the holidays? wende, I believe a while back you mentioned trying to get together at the Museum? If you wanted to do that, we could end with a drink at the new St. Regis Hotel next door--which has a stunning lobby and cocktail lounge. But, I'll have a car and don't need to stay south of Market if you want to meet up in another neighborhood.
