One Train May Hide Another
by Kenneth Koch
In a poem, one line may hide another line,
As at a crossing, one train may hide another train.
That is, if you are waiting to cross
The tracks, wait to do it for one moment at
Least after the first train is gone. And so when you read
Wait until you have read the next line--
Then it is safe to go on reading.
The next line...and an audio clip

thank you! the weekend has been rather bleak, mood-wise, owing largely to the weather. but then I read the poem and heard the audio. it almost made me cry but then it cheered me up.
if this sounds strange, it is because Dr. Kenneth Koch was my favorite professor. He not only about poetry and about writiing, but also about teaching and about living. I think of him still and I remember writing to him just before he passed away, where he was still teaching in a hospital. a true original. he was to living loving teaching and writing what Karim Rashid is to living designing architecture and culture.
