What is it about other people's houses? Simply cooking dinner in an unfamiliar kitchen can feel like an adventure, and there's the particular thrill of seeing another family's history told in battered novels and broken badminton rackets.
What are you doing this weekend?
We're trolling around North Carolina and having a great time! We have eaten more BBQ in the past 4 days than we've eaten all year. I can also report that boiled peanuts are nasty.

Working hard for a deadline, but taking breaks to walk in the garden, have lunch in the garden, prune something here and there, and back to work. Oh, and watching the Tour de France.

"I particularly like New York on hot summer nights when all theâ¦uh, superfluous people are off the streets."
-- Tennessee Williams
I'm home in the city. Later we're seeing Spring Awakening and Romeo & Juliet.

Dusting Nigel & Giles' modern abode turned into a major redecorating process, but in true Cure fashion, they're having a party.

I just finished putting edging in my yard--who knew that was necessary? Soon I'll start making caipirinhas for friends. My dog is spending the day sleeping on the front walk.

Settling back into my routine after returning from a week's vacation in beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario! Taking an early-morning fitness walk in Fort Tryon Park Sunday morning, then vaccuuming and grocery shopping, then dropping off a bag of stuff at Housing Works on my way to see the Tiffany exhibit at the New-York Historical Society.

With a friend visiting from Montreal, walked the entire length of Central Park, with a stop by Summer Stage. We then had dinner at Rice -- I was shocked to find their old location in soho demolished!) -- they are now on Elizabeth (bet Houston & Bleeker); Then we rode the bus down to South Street Seaport where I watched dozens of people dance the tango (my friend, included).
Wonderful day.

We spent the day in the park at Annecy, France. Next to central park, it is my favourite park anywhere in the world.
Few North Americans seem to have heard of it. It is stunningly beautiful, set in the Alps with the mountains seeming to spill into Lac Annecy, which it borders. The park has lovely tree-shrouded canals, a 100 year old carousel, and paquiers (pedal horses for little ones).
We went into the medieval old town for dinner. My (almost) 4 year old daughter made a friend named Emma, and they were inseperable for hours, feeding swans and tearing through on her ride-a-bike.
