Meditation: On Christmas Eve

twodtree.jpg

If, like us, you've given up on the idea of getting a tree--the trouble, the cost, the cat--but find that it doesn't feel quite like Christmas without one, here's an idea that might inspire: last night E. and I whipped up a 2D tree out of tissue paper, and we decorated it with balls cut out of some old wallpaper we had around the house.

It's a bit more minimal than Dyker Heights, but suits us just fine.

Happy holidays, everyone.

Cute! And creative. I have indeed given up the idea of a tree (since 1985 I've been treeless) but I do sometimes buy a fresh wreath, and hang some ornaments on it instead. The cats can't as readily access it, and it allows me to enjoy my ornaments without the hassle of a full on tree experience. Happy Holidays!

Congratulations on a beutiful "tree." It's amazing and amusing at the same time.

I love your Christmas Tree. I once made a tree with green lights into the tree shape on my brick wall. Tape my cards and handmade ornaments.

Happy Christmas and New Year!

Very nice! We've done both--tracing a tree on the wall with a string of lights, and putting up a paper tree--in our previous place. Put a wreath of a swag of greens in for seasonal aromatherapy and you're golden.

Have a great holiday!

I can't remember whether it was last year, or the one before that, that I got rid of the artificial tree that a down-and-out neighbor gave me when she was moving out of the building I lived in in Hell's Kitchen ten years ago and gave me as she packed up her car to move out of state to her folks' house.

The tree seemed kind of cute, but a little sad, and I debated whether to get a real tree, or a nicer newer one, but I ended up just putting lights on the fake cedar that I keep in the corner of the living room behind the sofa.

I think that when you grow up with always having a Christmas tree, it just doesn't quite seem like Christmas until you at least come up with some semblance of one in your own home.

Sometimes those adapations are the most Christmas-y!

that's pretty spiffy. Another alternative, which is what I did in my teeny tiny apartment, was hang a big wreath. It still has the evergreen smell, and the christmas lights, and a big red ribbon--but it's not nearly as much hassel as a tree...

Merry Christmas!

When I was a kid we spent one Christmas with my Aunt Von and Uncle Jack in Reno. They had captured a tumbleweed and put little tiny balls on it for a Christmas tree.
We have an artificial tree -- but it's up all year. We met on Christmas eve.....
