Welcome to Carol!

Hi, AT - My husband’s paintings adorn our living room giving it lots of vibrant color and “va-voom!”.

His style is realist, depicting New York City scenes and portraits. It has been described as Hopper-esque...

The Victorian picture rail with its ornate detail is original to the house. It provides an excellent system for hanging artwork without the need to hammer nails into the walls. Fear of commitment? Problem solved. With this system, the artworks can also be rearranged as often as you like and additions can easily be accommodated. I used picture hooks and transparent nylon fishing line which allows for the paintings to be hung in an overlapping fashion.

I am very proud of my husband’s art work and I believe that this is an effective way of displaying them.

In the bedroom, I have hung a collection of artworks above the headboard in a way that would mask the sloping ceiling and also make the tiny room appear bigger. The collection includes botanical prints, a print of a nude by Degas, an old poster for a production of Moliere’s Tartuffe, and an old sepia photo of the village of Clearwell in Gloucestershire, England where we were married.

Yeah, the woodwork, envy.

Really nice artwork and the color of the bedroom wall(s) is so crisp, I love it.

i love that you put a tall mirror between the 2 windows. it really opens up the space & adds even more light. i have some really large windows, but now that's it's winter, i've seen my place get really dark. i think i'm going to incroporate more mirrors into my place.

I love how the walls and furniture are kept very neutral in the living area because it really makes the colors in the art standout.

Wow... I have to say I am so impressed with AT reader's art spaces! Incredible mix of design ingenuity and creativity out there... I am in awe (also very inspired)!
What a gift for people to open their doors and allow us to view their homes... thank you!

I love the green color you've chosen as an accent throughout. As well, the artwork, plants combined with that woodwork -- well, it's simply stunning!

I love the green walls in your bedroom. Can you share the color name/brand with us? It's so soothing.

This brought on a most wonderful feeling of deja vu - I felt right at home! The art is inspiring and most likely a reflection of the dear ones who inhabit this beautiful space. Thank you so much for sharing a glimpse with us.

Thank you all for your kind words.

Here are answers to your questions :

Melissa - we used Benjamin Moore's HIBISCUS 2027-50 for the bedroom walls.

Erin - you can see some of my husband's paintings at http://www.flickr.com/photos/carol-and-martin/ under the set "Martin's Paintings" .

Cheerio!

I knew as soon as I saw picture # 1 that I was going to like this. I love the contrast of the bright, beautiful paintings with the classic furniture. Very nicely done.

Thanks for sharing a brilliant idea to hang artworks on the wall! For a commitment phobic guy like me, it think, it is a workable solution.
I really love the positive energy that your home exudes. It says: come in, relax, and linger for a while. Would you put it put for rent next time you go on a long holiday?
