Welcome to Laura!

Some people find them creepy, but I've always loved looking at the
expressions of people in portraits.

I've accumulated a wall of women's portraits over the years from flea
markets and a couple slightly more spendy places (the pencil drawing)...

When I had a big office, the two boys were on the wall behind my desk
like the portraits you see in law offices of partners, but happily
pre-pubescent. Now they have to be happy hanging out in the alcove
outside my bathroom.

While the poodle is not officially a "portrait," his slightly
judgmental gaze is very knowing. He is over my bed.

Laura,
I love your portraits. I am a lover of anonymous portraits too. I don't collect them as you do, but i love them and find them so interesting, just like I love looking at people's photo albums when I don't know the people. You have assembled a wonderful collection.

Yours are particularly wonderful, because as I looked at them, I received the thought "Laura's guardians." I feel as if they are looking over you and protecting youI especially love the lady on the bottomleft (brown hair, sort of sternish expresion. This is a kind earth mother type who won't let anyone mess with you, she takes no bull. Those young boys are just absolutely angelic and a reminder to always look at things with fresh enthusiatic eyes.

I loved your submission, it brightened my day. Thanks for sharing.

I used to own a slightly creepy vintage portrait of an old man but my husband hated him and compalined that his eyes followed him around the room. So I hung him in my walk-in pantry to startle anyone who went in there.

I think these are both creepy and fun. Have you ever seen the Museum of Bad Art in Massachusetts? They have all kinds of work like these.. its amazing. From an artistic point of view I love the portraits because they are so bad, yet so earnestly done. You should really check out MoBA - link below.

i love them- I used to have a 25 ft wall in an old appt that was covered with thrift shop flower paintings. Alas, i was decluttering and got rid of them all- story of my life accumalate, purge.

I love picking up old framed photos in thrift shops - I will happily hang them on my wall not knowing who they are - just because they are my relatives doesn't mean they are not worthy of display - and I always feel bad that someone has chosen to throw out a photograph of someone special...
