Welcome to Barbara!

Apartment Therapy inspired me to take control of this horrible bathroom (see pics in Flickr). The total cost was just under $1000, and it's made daily life heaps better! By the way, adding a shower was just too expensive (re-piping required) so I've happily ordered the hand-held shower head you featured yesterday (my present one is plastic)...

I take a bath and use the shower head only to rinse off the soap as the water is draining.

Long live Apartment Therapy!
Barbara

I really like that Ikea sink. Does anyone know if it can be wall-mounted, or does it have to sit on a cabinet?

a great change for $1000! very soothing colors you chose...and faucet too! it's an eyecatcher.

Really nice change. I like that you kept the old bath faucet. Looks as though a bath in there would be soothing. Great colors. Enjoy

Oh, and the mirror above the sink, very nice.

I like the towel rack with the shelf - where did you get it?

Also love the pale pale pink....

I've been daydreaming of a whispery pink color for the ceiling--could you mentioned what color you used?

ocgrl,
there were no brackets on the sink, so I guess it has to rest on something. It is pretty heavy, too.

Vattern sink cabinet, sink, faucet, glass shelf from Ikea. It's about time people can transform what can easily be 5 digit spaces into something that makes them happy--on a shoestring budget. And, not traditional. And, from a place that sells the best friggin cookies (the thin, crispy oatmeal ones with the thin layer of chocolate in between.)

I feel like a dud, but I kinda liked the old bathroom, esp. the floor. Anyone else? The new one is much more soothing and very nicely done, but I was expecting much worse from the old.

That's a gorgeous color.

Tara, you can barely see it but I think she kept the floor.

Also, judging from the before pics, it looks like the yellow stripe wallpaper was stained and peeling. And the tiles along the baseboards were discolored and grungy-looking.

The new sink and vanity really work wonders for the room.

I still want to see just *one* piece of non-functional something in this (and other) bathrooms.

How gorgeous would just one conch shell look in here, its pink insides glowing like that wall color (for example)?

Oh, I see the floor now. Glad to see It--it adds the "pop" I think the room needs, maybe what a conch shell would accomplish? ;)

Naaaahhhhh... it still needs the conch shell. It's a beautiful job of accomplishing a low-budget rehab, but p(too) is onto something broader about the "spa" trend in bathrooms.

lovely color. and everything looks so crisp. i hate to say it--but something about the shelf is bothering me...it seems a little close to the window and the off-center aspect makes me want something more symmetrical.

i would have done without the shelf, unless someone suggested a way to make it integrate more with the symmetry (perhaps this is the purpose of the conch shell?)

The paint color is Benjamin Moore Shell Pink #883, so you guys are right about the conch shell.

The towel rack is from Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I added pictures of the floor to the flickr page; I agree it's a great floor, and I chose the pink color to compliment it (now I feel like we're in the early 1980's--where New Wave took over from Punk).

The trash can is from the shop at www.spiralfoundation.org/, which I learned about on AT.

Thanks, everyone, for notice'n me. It's fun to hear what you all say!

Barbara,

We're totally sink/vanity buddies! *high five*!

Having opened the can o' conch, I will say I'm not sure where it-- or any art-- would go in this bathroom where it wouldn't get knocked over by the errant towel.

It was more a general observation than specific criticism, Barbara, as the job you did on your bathroom is lovely.

Don't underestimate the power of a conch shell on a toilet tank!

Patrick, I think you were onto something with the conch. The room has a very Caribbean look to me now. I had a conch shell in my last bathroom as well as a sea fan, a couple of shells and a plastic iguana on the wall. I just saw little pieces of coral at crate and barrel for around $40.00! I think everybody picked a piece or two of the beach at one time.

I also think this room could go Miami Art Deco in a snap. Especially with the floor.
