Welcome to Carrie!

Here's a rarity in New York City -- a powder room! My boyfriend and I lucked out last year with a lovely duplex in Brooklyn, and we were stunned to suddenly have a second bathroom. I mainly use this to get ready in the morning, a real luxury that possibly prevents fistfights between us...

Since we're renters, we're pretty much stuck with the dated fixtures and lighting. But I wanted to brighten the place up and loved the idea of blues, pale greens and bright oranges. So I painted the dull white room "old pickup blue" from Benjamin Moore, but I prefer to think of it as "Tiffany box blue."

The sheer, dotted curtains are Thomas O'Brien from Target. The framed needlepoint was from a yard sale, and the flowers used to grace my desk at the office. (Sure, fake flowers are cheesy, but they are cute and I have a black thumb.)

Even without the identifying details, I could tell this was your room, Carrie. Your style is always happy and charming!

Maybe its the lighting or just some bad photos, but this looks horribly depressing.

Jess,

Why be so mean. If someone is willing to share their home, we should applaud their openness not tear them down with nasty comments.

this is lovely carrie- the combination of the pale blue and bright orange/red is fantastic. i'm dealing with a similar blue color in my bathroom and was trying to find a good accent color to pop. your bright orange has inspired me to try something like that- thanks!

thanks for the compliments.
taina, we're in cobble hill.
and jess might have a point -- i'm not much of a photographer and we don't get super light in that part of the apartment.

Our full bathroom is painted the same color. I like it.

i don't find this depressing at all -- i think it is very calm and cheery. the colors are lovely. what a nice way to wake up in the morning!

I think it is really really cute. The only thing that I would change is to hem the curtain to a shorter length- it just feels like too much 'romance' and not helping the 'cute.' It is a lovely curtain, in a lovely room, tho!

there is soemthing pensive about that blue, though i wouldn't call it depressing. this blue and the hot red and the dotted curtains are a 30s combination, i think. pretty "in a blue mood".

I have Old Pickup Blue in part of my hallway and it's not depressing at all ... in fact, I've always hated baby blues (they remind me of my parents' bad '70s nautical-themed master bath!) and surprised even myself when I picked that swatch out for my own home. It's definitely more like the top two pics and bottom two and not at ALL like the color of the middle one. I also have orange as an accent color so I encourage the person who was looking to do that also.

Oh, and I agree about the curtain ... as long and skinny as it is it looks like a shower curtain or something to me ... you should either hem it into a cuter length or get a soft roman blind or something. Otherwise ... it's a cute powder (blue) room! (And hurray for no ship's anchors!) ;-)

that's a fantastic color! Tiffany box blue :) Sounds great.
Makes me want to paint our bathroom blue, except the tiles are already bluish and I want to contrast them...

And I think your powder room looks lovely! Congratulations on having one :)
