Welcome to Lisa!
"attached is my recent bathroom remodel. the contractor liked it so much he asked me if i would do design work for his design-build firm when it was finished!
i used 17x17 concrete tiles on the floor and counter with matching grout. then i used 2 x 2 daltile glass tiles in the shower/tub area (which was existing) and i matched the grout to the floors (instead of using white)..."

I like both of the concrete bathrooms we've seen, but how do you keep concrete clean? What do you use on concrete counters/floors in terms of regular cleaning?
I like how sleek and uncluttered this room is; nice job!
The colors in this bathroom are absolutely gorgeous. The floor tiles look like they were not cut or were cut to the same width? Very serene without being at all stark--nice job.
beautiful bathroom! i love the symmetry of window/niche/tub detail. i'd love to see one more picture to get an idea of where the sinks are...
i love the amount of space in here, though would be cool to have, maybe?, a bench under the towel shelf. or not :)
i dig the colors, too...lovely blue-gray tile, brown accents, and the floor is a nice contrast. is your ceiling (both inside the tub nook and outside) painted a bluish gray? or is the light tricking me?
great job yo!
Is the ceiling painted a color, or just a trick of the photography?
If it's painted a color, brava!
Love the little peek of zebra pattern on the towel. Adds just a touch of fun and texture. Great job!
I'd love to see one small dark wood tribal bench or stool, too... would be a beautiful counterpoint to that glass-green glass tile (one of my favorite colors in the universe).
And I know are using a clear shower curtain to let the light pour in, but have you considered something else there?
We're on the verge of remodeling a bathroom and so many of the bathrooms shown thusfar simply haven't been what we're hoping to achieve. However your bathroom is truly an inspiration - especially the combination of concrete and glass tiles. And the result really is refreshing and calming. We also appreciated your critique of vessel sinks - you pointed out some aspects worth considring before buying one. Thank you.
you *are* using... sorry!
Click my name for a piece of furniture sort of what I was talking about...
Beautiful bathroom!
Where do you get concrete tiles?
Would you share the brand of blue towels please? I quit buying blue towels b/c they always end up with pink blotches after I wash them.
Love this...especially the pale colour scheme and gorgeous sink!
Wow, it's gorgeous. Can I move in?
Nicely done!
Simple, clean, organic, soothing. I completely agree that a nice wood piece to sit on would be a great addition. And maybe a shower door?
It's amazing how concrete ends up seeming so soft and comfortable.
The dragonfly and flower are great! It seems like I hear this more and more often, in fact I just heard it about 30 min. ago, "it's all about bringing nature indoors." Space, light, color, texture, materials, images.
Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE this bathroom. The floor is exactly what I was trying to achieve.
Is it easy to find concrete tiles of that colour, or did you have them custom made?
Love it! The concrete floor looks like limestone - so beautiful.
p2 will a wood bench get all moldy and warped in like a damp bathroom. i know wende luvs mold but i think its yucky...
i luv, luv the bathroom btw... like someone said where do u get the tile?
Leave wende alone.
And spell out your words. Or r u 2 cool 2?
thanx kd and art. thats why i like this site. for every meanie like p2 who likes to put people down there are 2 helpful people who will tell u stuff and not make fun of you.
u have it all wrong p2 i like wende and i think she is supercool and supernice. she was making a joke in some other thread how she luvs all guys maxwell kicked off the site because they kept asking awkward questions like she luvs moldy grout and i was just playing along. jeez pattrick u should paint your red foyer pink and relax a little you have so much anger.
or r u angry 'cause u didnt see that a wood bench in the bathroom would get moldy so now you are trying to put me down? thats mean.
the proper wood will not get warped. think SAUNAS. a nice teak bench would look smokin' hot right there, especially against the concrete. and if introducing wood is too much for ya, maybe a metal bench.
oh yeah! how bout wicker? with little rosettes all over it! and a gingham cushion! with tassles! ;)
Curious one,
Don't be so quick to write off the idea of wood in the bathroom. People forget that wood is used for outdoor furniture and boats such as the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria.
Teak is one fine example and Crate and Barrel is actually carrying two other types of wood "rugs" one of which is a coconut wood. They can be used indoors or in semi-sheltered outdoor areas.
And, since everyone is putting brand new ventilation in their bathrooms the moisture in the air is no longer as much of an issue. Coupled with an underfloor heating system and/or a heated towel rack, mold doesn't stand a chance.
I like it, heck it's A LOT nicer than my bathroom but the shape of the sink is bugging me, it's kinda toilet seat shaped. Maybe I just need a cup of tea.
thank you for all of your comments on my bathroom. i actually do have a 1. nice dark wood square shaped trash bin, 2. a dark brown xx-large clothes bin and a dark brown 'ladder' that holds hand towels and magazines. so i definetly got the dark brown around the room.
the tiles were acvailable in many sizes and about 10 different colors. i do not remember the name of supplier. they don't stain. but they do patina and show 'history' so if you are super choosy you mat not like them. i love the contrast between the modern and 'used' look they aquire.
also, the sinks are shaped round, not oval -- like a toilet. i stuck to squares and circles.
the bathroom is rectangular and the vanity is directly opposite the tub. lots of space in between.
i hope i answered all of your questions. thanks again for looking!
lisa
where did you find that lovely shaving mirror? i've been looking for something just like that!
i got the shaving mirror at ikea. you can get them at restoration hardward but they are WAY more expensive. mine was like $12.99.
Just Curious--
If you think this or any exchange with you pegs me as a "meanie", you have lead a very sheltered, protected life, and I wish you all the luck in the world with living the rest of it that way!
And my entry way is a LOVELY relaxing Chocolate brown, Pratt & Lambert's "Loam", #2015.
And you're being kinda ridiculous about mold issues regarding wood... teak on boats, much?
PS: Lisa, really a gorgeous bathroom, sleek without sacrificing warmth, which is not easy!!
Lisa-
Beautiful bathroom. It's truly inspiring. I love the mirror with the light fixture. Can you tell me how large the wall mirror is and how they install the light there? Also, what did you use for the border? Is something like that hard to do?
Lisa! You mention that the concrete slabs were 17" by 17", but in the photo they're pretty rectangular. Were those custom cut, or cut by your contractor, or did they just come in that size?
Thanks so much!
J.
I could also see a framed vintage print of bird's eggs, but framed very "modernly"... incorporating the browns and blues, the organic and the industrial... could be lovely.
Lisa--
Is the ceiling painted?
(a color)
lisa,
where did you get those white and brown towels (the zebra stripe)? I just love em! Blue one's? are they from the same place?
lynnea--
My guess would be Pottery Barn (Bed and Bath) for at least the zebra towels, although that looks like PB blue to me, too.
Lisa--
Another thing that would look great in here would be if you ceiling-mounted a track for your shower curtain... might mean a custom length curtain, but would be in keeping with your clean-detail and polished (in a good way!) look.
Beautiful materials and colors! Exactly what I would choose if I could bear to turn down the color volume for a minute, like ever...
