Welcome to Vicky!

Not sure if this qualifies as a bathroom as there is no "bath". I suppose that technically, it is just a powder room. I needed a little intimacy and color in my otherwise pale and open loft. The silver paint is soft and reflective on the walls and the overall steel-y qualities reflect the cast iron columns just out side the door to the room...

The tile came mounted on 12"x12" mesh squares and after it was installed, but not grouted, I moved many of the disks to obscure the straight lines between each mesh square. Painstaking, but worth it!

For perspective, the bath is about 5' X 5' and the vanity cabinet is 3' 3" wide.

Backsplash Wall: metallic and red circle mosaic from Artistic Tile
Sink: ceramic "steel" vessel sink from Artistic Tile
Floors: Ironworks "steel" rectified porcelain from Artistic Tile
Vanity: wall mounted wenge cabinet from Henrybuilt
Faucet: Jado Glance monoblock lav faucet
Walls: Janovic silver paint
Toilet: NeoMetro Cerine toilet from Gracious Home

Love the color scheme! Very cool.

LOVE that you extended the tiling beneath the vanity.

Speaking of vanity, how do you function without a mirror?

This is really nice!! I love the color choices!! Great job!

Did the toilet come like that? Crazy. I like the tiles, but the wood appears a bit too dark for such a small space. What kind of lighting do you have in there and how do you straighten your hair/make up without a mirror?

Wow! That's an expensive little nook!

I was wondering what Henrybuilt's policy was for designing only one cabinet or did you put in a Henrybuilt kitchen also? Did they offer any advice when you told them you wanted to use it as a vanity cabinet? Did they provide the cut-outs also?

I agree with Patrick(too) on the mirror. Maybe a stainless steel framed mirror. And the picture will look much better hung on the wall.

Didn't even notice the missing mirror until the other poster pointed it out! Love the tile and really like the mix of stainless steel potty with the wood.
Question about the vanity: is that a drawer or cabinet?

Nice job.

I love the creativity and thought put into this little room. Even sans mirror, guests will likely spend plenty of additional time just admiring the way the tile extends from ceiling to floor thru the vanity and enjoying the awesome mod "throne". Great job! -ad

United Airlines called. They want their toilet back.

Do I even need to say that I love the tile? It's gorgeous (I considered using that same product, actually), and the room is fantastic.

Vicky--
Just wondering if the application of the silver paint served up any surprises?

I'm planning on painting a wall in a client's home with Benjamin Moore's metallic equivalent, and was wondering what I might be facing...

that toilet is just... TOO MUCH.

i could of seen a nice toilet matching the sink bowl working a lot better than.. a steel and wood toilet.

posted by Jamie on 2007-03-15 15:50:59

wait, is the sink bowl wood too? O_O"

Okay. no, the toilet should of just been a dark porcelain toilet, then. yikes!

OK Jamie, should/could *have*, not should/could *of*.
I just cannot let that go, for some reason I have been seeing it all over today...

And yes, I am OCD

Totally not my style, but really creative. I like the tile, but I do miss the mirror.

I love it! This is creative, unique and it's what you like. That's what matters. My hat's off to you on a job well done.

Britain called. They want their "u" back.

posted by patrick (the other one) on 2007-03-16 03:58:15

hey patrick the other one...
if they call back, tell them i still need the 'u' to use in a couple words...

To answer all your questions...
Spanishfish: I haven't resolved the mirror issue yet. It is just a powder room for guests. Do they really need to primp?
There is light panel above the vanity - bulbs behind frosted plexi that creates a glow as well as a traditional "can" light fixture in the ceiling above the toilet.
Art: Henrybuilt was fantastic and built that wall cabinet for me knowing it was a bathroom vanity. They also built a library wall and office for me. Call Chris at the showroom in Soho. He is great!
Patrick (the other one): We sprayed the silver paint on in the end as you could see brushstrokes when we did a test patch, and I didn't like that. It is softly metallic and wipes clean well (two children here so that was a necessity!).
CorneliaWarwick: The Henrybuilt vanity has a drawer.

Thank you all for the great comments! -Vicky

'Do guests really need to primp?'

If you have people over for dinner, they deserve to be able to tell if they have spinach in their teeth! And it's a powder room FFS - you can't powder anything without a mirror!!

Looks lovely, but I find that rather selfish / indulgent design.
