Welcome to Elizabeth!
This is my bedroom. I love it because it is very dark (when I shut the curtains and blinds) and has my favorite things in it. Those being, my books, my art, my grandmother's vanity, and of course, my kitties. I really wanted a dark, sleep friendly space, with a romantic, yet bold, feminine feeling.

I love your room! My bedroom is dark too and i am currently working on it and shooting for a similar style: very lush, warm colors, very romantic. No "hotel room style" bedroom for me. Good luck with your new home. P.S. your kitty is beautiful!
Nice color combination, and you make the older furniture work (like that bench). The room looks fresh and individual.
I like the view from the hall. It calls me into the room.
your curtains are amazing! they totally bring the room together. well done!
Is that a Matter tea cup I see?
Target sells that Eiffel Tower lamp base in black. Nice.
I like this! It's warm and I get a sense of your personality from it. Plus, it feels like the kind of space that can just evolve slowly whenever you move or want to try out something a little bit different.
Wonderful! It reminds me so much of my bedroom with all the warm romantic colors, mix of contemporary with old world style, and I even have that Eiffel tower lamp base. So needless to say I totally love it :D
Buy yourself a dust ruffle. That'll really bring it together! And oh, what about a little rug on the floor so you feet don't get cold?
Please share the story about the shoes painting....I LOVE IT!
Oh my!!! looks like a room designed in Marrakesh!! love the warm colors!
Hello Elizabeth! What a gorgeous, warm, beautiful room! I love that big basket with books.
Regarding beds, I'm extremely happy with my Dux bed (www.duxiana.com). Was the scariest purchase of my life, but I miss it every moment I'm away from it!
Thank you for sharing. I've gained a few ideas! And that shoes painting is just brilliant!
Wow what a cozy beautiful room! Excellent job!!

Yay! When I was about 20, I read something in some women's magazine that said to always style your bedroom in a way that a man would be comfortable there. That seemed like really awesome advice to me at the time, and I really took it to heart. Then when I was about 30, I all of a sudden was like, that is totally crappy advice, because this is my bedroom! Ever since, I've totally loved to see really feminine spaces like this, and yours is really nice -- I especially like the bench at the vanity. (And I'm not accusing you of having a man-alienating space either, if that matters, because I don't think a warm, cozy spot like this could alienate anyone.)
I love it, the cat is lovely and the feeling charming... but as a fellow lady ( I mean I am another woman, not a fellow/ lady, not that there's anyhting wrong with that) IMHOP .. the shoe picture is great but not soooooo good over the bed- not sexy enough!... Id go for dark brown walls in my next place, I just did it myself and ...mmmmm!
I think a white wrought-iron bed frame would look fantastic against your color palette. (the light color and negative space would be a good antidote to the heavy, dark wood) I, too, adore that needlepoint stool! And what about one of those ikea sheepskin rugs for next to the bed? It's a really beautiful and personal space, congrats.
Thank you for all your nice comments!
The shoe painting is one of the first paintings I did after starting my current job (as a graphic designer/illustrator). The uncomfy high heeled shoes were my metaphor for the stuffy corporate atmosphere I found myself in after college. I originally put that painting there to match with a quilt that's still in the works. It has the same colors as the rest of the room, but has hints of that bright blue in it. This painting is called "Monday through Friday". I'm always evolving in my art, but you can see a few of my older pieces (and soon, more of my apartment) on my flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/eabaddeley .
The stool is needlepointed by my grandmother. She had an amazing sense of style for someone her age, and could work wonders with needles and thread.
Thanks for the tips too. I've been looking for the right rug for a long time (unfortunately Kansas City is 6 hours from the closest Ikea). I'm thinking of painting the walls a pale color (maybe a pink?) just to give my eyes a little break. The dark can be a little too much at times. Oh, and for the comment about not decorating a room for anyone but yourself...I totally agree. However, my boyfriend has never once complained about how dark my room is when we sleep in until noon on the weekends!
GORGEOUS room - lovely - I particularly like the stool - is that a needlepoint seat? - fabulous design on it
The shoe pic is perfect! Totally girly, and plenty sexy, what with the high heels!
Warm and comfortable. Love the shoe painting. 5 shoes, 5 days- Fabulous.
This bedroom is lovely. If you'd like to go the budget route with your bed, find an inexpensive wood headboard with a nice basic shape. (I found a simple curved one in the trash.) Cover it with some batting found at fabric or craft stores. Then staple fabric to the back of the headboard, pulling it quite taut as you go. It's so easy, and when you get tired of the fabric, or if it gets soiled, you can just staple another layer of fabric over the existing one.
I just lean my headboard against the wall with the bed pushed up against it, but you could also secure it with some kind of brackets.
