Welcome to Erin!

I live in a new student housing building in Harlem. I've got a fabulous view of St. Nicholas park, but like most here I'm working with a tiny room. Our apartment is small, and this is my only refuge in the world, so I've tried to make it personal while staying within the strict guidelines dictated by the dorm. I'm not even supposed to hang pictures! I try to compensate by keeping the accessories colorful.

The chair is a trash-pile find and prized possession. The curtain over the closet is a Target favorite, I love that white pattern on a black background.

I got the paper lantern at miniminimarket in Williamsburg.

Enjoy! Erin

My bedroom in my apartment doesn't even look that put together. Are you a design major?

Is the building the new Barnard dorm? I think it's called Cathedral Gardens.

I think this is the new City College dorm that's basically in St. Nick park.

What a lovely space! The accents on the window sill are very nice without overwhelming the view. It feels so WARM for a dorm space.

Make your bed.

That is the most beautiful dorm room I have ever seen. I love the curtain over the closet, your propping of art, the orange bedding, the hanging lantern and, of course, the trash-find chair (don't you love when that happens?).

One suggestion is that I would move that curtain down to match the height of the recess in the wall, thereby adding height. That recess is cute by the way.

I would love to see how your style evolves as you move to larger places. Thanks for sharing!

Gosh, if I had had such a cozy dorm room! Seriously, until I read it was a dorm, I didn't know.

Ditto - I had no idea it was a dorm room either. Very cute lantern.

Truly the most beautiful dorm room I've ever seen! The chair was definitely a fabulous find.

Erin, when I was in college, I discovered the joy of 3M hooks. Or even just the adhesive without the hooks. If you want to hang stuff up, the hooks work wonders.

Lovely room!

That looks very cosy. I am extremely jealous of your large window and your view. :)

hannah:
I would do 8x10 color prints for $20, $40 matted and framed. My email address is on the contact page of my website if you're interested!

Hi Erin. I love your your work. I would love to have some of your prints of New York. I really miss living in New York and this would help with homesickness. Living in the High Dessert isn't easy.

I love how you've transformed a cold white box into something cozy and warm, but not cluttered. Good work!

Oh, that's so cozy...why can't I ever make my dorm room look cozy? ugh. Anyway, how did you hang the paper lantern? I would love to have stuff coming off of my ceiling but I'm not sure if there's a way to do besides hooks on the ceiling? Thanks!
