I love this bedroom! so quaint...
One question I have about the placement of the bed in front of the window, does it ever get too cold? I have a similar layout, but also have very old windows and wind coming through! I wondered if you have this problem too. It looks so nice to place it this way...Thanks for sharing.

Is that a jar full of christmas lights? I really like the effect - looks like trapped fireflies.

Bedroom Dweller replies:

Hi, thanks for the good words! It's true, old windows are a nuisance when it's 11 degrees out and the wind is howling. We got the light-blocking custom-fit accordion shade for that reason: it blocks the draft reasonably well, and we add an extra blanket or pillows behind our heads if we want a little air during the other seasons so it's not a draft on our neck. It's not proper feng shui to have your bed that way, but it's so nice to pop up and take a look out the window.

Yes, Christmas lights in a flask! An eggnog flask to be specific, with a little switch handily wired (if I do say so myself) into the cord so you don't have to unplug it at the outlet.

A few more features that didn't make it into the copy of the post: The room is very small and it's a trapezoid, giving us a few "issues". We reckoned with the challenges head-on and it's become my very favorite bedroom ever! I used an early AT tip - had lots of built-in shelving installed when I moved in, then hung silk curtains on tension wires, floor to ceiling, instead of doors. West Elm had reasonable pricing for simple, fully-lined silk drops. More recently, when my sweetheart moved in, I had the headboard and two small shelves to the right built in (can you make out the obtuse angle those two walls form?) as there was no room for a nightstand on his side.

What's the name of the paint color?

I'm going to ask Law Grithm's question again, because I really want to know the color's name and brand, pretty please. It's gorgeous!

Oh sure ... as an avid reader of Mark's Color Therapy posts, I understand.

It's Ben Moore 2164-60, Soft Satin. As is so often the case with these subtle colors, it's from a brown page in the Color Preview deck, but it reads pinky on the walls. The photo with the flamingo shows the color pretty acurately.

I used a neighboring color, 2164-50, Saint Martin Sand, in a previous bedroom, and that was nice to live with as well.

I was so caught up admiring your room that I didn't notice your gorgeous view of the Hancock at first. That's the kind of touch that's just priceless. Jealous!

wish you'd included a close-up of the 'firefly' lighting effect--very attractive! are you a trained lighting designer? it would appear so...

Fabulous bedroom design - I love how the window is left uncluttered to capture that glorious view. The fairy lights are a really pretty touch and the leaf motif on the pillows ties in so well with trees outside. Lovely!
