Welcome to Quinn Brant!

I had to share these pictures of my friends bedroom with the AT Community. Quinn Brant is my 3LM business partner, fellow designer and decorator extraordinaire.

He has the amazing ability to create warm, luxuriously eclectic spaces on a beer budget. He has a hip and avant-garde flair for turning found objects into objet d'art but with a tongue and cheek attitude. His work always blows me away.

Thanks so much, Christine

this bedroom is gorg...it's warm, inviting and really interesting. I could easily spend the day in bed reading and lounging. Amazing talent. Love it!

good job of being whimsical but not girly. the ironing board "shelving" was particularly fun.

it's the kind of dark and sleek yet whimsical aesthetic that i think (perhaps wrongly) as "ecole de p2".

chocolate brown has bribed its way into dominance recently.

Love it. Luxurious and tasteful while being extremely un-boring. The Vicomte de Valmont himself would feel at home in this bedroom. But what's with all these stacks of books posing as side tables? If Quinn suddenly had the urge to read them he'd have to dismout all the laps/knick/knacks etc... This is why shelves were invented....

Truly gorgeous -- very adult and sophisticated. Congrats on a beautiful job. I love the ironing board!

the furry headboard scares me a little, but at least it would be soft.

love the drama of it all.

I really like this room. What is the paint color?

I went from "I want this room" at the beginning of the slideshow, to "I couldn't be in this room without knocking over or breaking something" by the end of it. That makes me sad because it looks so cool.

and i have those lamps from target, but i'm thinking of making a change. they seem like too much in our bedroom. they look amazing in your dramatic setting, but we're not pulling it off like you are. I'd appreciate suggestions: (click my name)

I'm envious of all your bedroom space. Do you realize how lucky you are? You have nightstands on each side of your bed!

I like your furry headboard. Strangely, I have this urge to "pet it."

Not my style at all, but very well done indeed. The colors and textures are fantastic. The furry headboard and rug look like they would be lots of fun.

posted by Sydney on 2007-02-26 16:51:28

Honestly its terrible. It looks like something from a Trading Spouses episode. The furry headboard looks both unsanitary and silly and the boots on the wall are just, well, stupid. This bedroom gives the impression of someone making an effort at design as opposed to effortless design.

Horrid.

A little too staged (glass of milk, glass of scotch, silly boots on the wall) but there are some really nice elements. I especially like the old ironing board as a side table. And I don't know what all the hoopla is about over the faux fur headboard. It definitely works in the space. And it's good for absorbing whatever sounds may come from the space.

I love the table made out of books. This room would make me want to curl up and read all day. I love the vintage touches.

And Edina, I believe you mean Trading Spaces.

Hello all and thanks! These rooms are my sanctuary - they just sort of evolved. i move stuff about on a routine basis and am always surprised how the same base elements can make the rooms look totally different when put in new arrangements. I totally understand the comment about feeling scared to move about for fear of breaking something, but really its not like that at all; I live hard and have never broken anything I cant live without. (great chances to practice non-attachment!) Everything here is cheap! Don't live in fear of design. Good design is welcoming and forgiving. The large books are hardback and nearly all reference - or books that I use infrequently, so as not to disturb my 'tables.' also, shelves really make a space feel smaller - things positioned on the floor leave the upper areas free to hang other stuff or just leave the wall to breathe. The orange is custom - I matched a Hermes orange box from a friend. (I myself can't afford Hermes.)

And, Eddy, darling, we must lunch soon. I'll bring the scotch.

posted by quinn on 2007-02-26 22:55:26

Forgot: that old duvet is from chez TJMaxx circa 1992 believe it or not. Lotta mileage out of that bad boy. It's reversible too - crazy Paisley on the other side!

There is a tiny closet in the room - not deep enough to even hang clothes, though, so I snagged a huge Ikea closet - it might be pictured in one of the pics. I painted it a creamy white to balance all the orange and texture.

This room has nothing to do with design. It's all to do with arrangement. A tad unpolished, but it works within its constraints. This wouldn't make me gush over the moon with excitement. But if given a proper budget, I can see potential. Nice work.

Frankly, I think your room looks comforting because you have things around you that you enjoy. I like it a lot. Lovely, orange.

Nicely done! Elegant but casual and comfortable.

I love the boots on the wall. Remember - this is beer budget. It's an additional piece of eye candy or a conversation piece depending on your taste.

Love the coral color with the blue and chocolate curtain as well.

Sorry - love the "hermes orange."

Very nice. A distinct and pleasing style. The room makes you feel warm and comfortable. Love the chocolate (well, I love chocolate) with the orange.

I keep coming back to your sight and I'm always finding something new to admire. does the rug shed a lot? where did you get it?

Cozy and Inviting, as if, walking through Portobello fleamarket and finding sweet delights for the senses. Although the room is small, there so much to catch one's eye - artwork, textures(shag carpet, jacquard upholstery), antiques, cowboy boots on wall. The room has personality and history, and of course cocoa is not only yummy for the tummy.

Re Quinn Brant's Curtained Escape - Love the use of orange tones and the positioning of lights/lighting effects - the room exudes warmth and drama, great self expression there. Very creative, eclectic and innovative in using the ironing board as an interior design piece! And love love the choice of art pieces on the wall, etc. - again the designer's flair for the unconventional and dramatic is manifested. No usual, boring expectations here, only interesting wonderful surprises. Good work!

Very unique combinations of items most people would consider "junk" but, you took these items and arranged a very cozy and warm bedroom retreat. It is pleasing to the eye and inviting to the heart. I would be very comfortable reading a book and drinking hot choc. on a rainy day in this delightful bedroom. Great Job!

Quinn,
can you tell us about the gold branches by the head of your bed? Are they regular branches that have been spray painted, or are they brass or something? They look too perfect to be real!

Warm, inviting, fresh, luxurious but whimsical...I could spend hours here.

Wow, I'm really drawn to this bedroom. What a wonderful use of chocolate and my favorite color, Hermes orange. Tee room conveys a strong sense of the owner's sensibility and personality. I would want to get to know this person. Great job!

a wonderful play on colors! What a fun room! The old ironing board and the branches definitely adds character. And who would have thought of using the boots as such!? This room is different and that is what makes it beautiful. Ecletic and warm, it radiates old world machismo on a modern palette with a slight hint of a whimsical feel. I love it! Can I call you when I buy my first house??

posted by Abby on 2007-03-04 19:39:15

Carson- The branches are actually real. Quinn got it from a neighbor's backyard and spray- painted it a light gold color. What's amazing about his bedroom suite is that it cost under a thousand dollars to furnish it. The ironing board is my favorite, but I LOOOOVE the "Books-As-Walls" in the first shot with the curtains. It helps keep the space open, but still differentiated. All these found objects mixed with contemporary practical pieces are brilliant. It's hard to make a space look so eclectic and yet so graceful and ordered. I want to live here!
