Is that a pile of dirty laundry in the corner by the desk?

Does your mother read this site??

If it is, it looks as though it has an arm :)

Well.....it's so....IKEA. It needs to get mixed up just a bit more to add some style. And ditto on the dirty clothes.

ikea much?

haha, yep... lots of IKEA. i can't afford much else, i'm in college. but its a nice look, and i won't lose any sleep selling it all off in a year or two when i move on. as for the laundry, that's actually modern art.

modern art! hahaha that reminds me of an artist i knew who sold a pile of trash from the dumpster behind the gallery for a couple thousand. haha

anyway, this sorta reminds me of my ex's place. course i'm 25, so that's sorta normal.

i think the best thing you could do is take the tv out of the bedroom (unless this is a studio). same w/ the office if you can. it's nice to make your bedroom a place where you only relax, sleep, & well, you know. i've heard having he other stuff in there can actually stress you out b/c you're thinking about those projects for the office/school you have to do.

A nice rich color painted on the walls would make this room a lot less like a dorm room and much warmer/more cozy- it might make that light-colored (ikea) furniture pop more. just a thought.

It's so.... College.

It's not THAT bad. It just needs some pops of color. It's way too beige. How about a bright comforter? And more art on the walls, some big to distract from all the beige carpet and white walls.

Hella nicer than my apartment when I was in college! Good for you!

I bear Rob nothing but good thoughts, but why, exactly, are we looking at this?

Really.... why?

The neutral color scheme / matching ikea thing can work, but a few things I would try:

Looks like you have a bunch of records - how about displaying the covers like art? Maybe on the shelf above the bed? You need to get more color / drama over the bed somehow. Another over-the-bed option is to relocate the shelf and go with a huge, abstract canvas with a big punch of color. You could do it yourself (get color inspiration from the pc. of art that's on the tv wall). If you're hard-core about music, maybe color-copy a bunch of album covers & collage them onto the giant canvas instead.

Try putting the floor lamp on the tv stand where the record player is. Sitting against the carpet is not doing the lamp justice. On top of the tv stand is the next best thing to the glow the lamp would give against a wood floor. It will also make the wall more visually interesting with the varying heights.

Clean up the wires behind the shelving unit w/ one of those things that bunches them together (they sell them at Ikea).
