apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Apartment Envy: 13 Leroy Street

2004_11_12_floorpleroy.jpgWhaaa. Even though we are called Apartment Therapy, our dream home in New York is a townhouse with a garage, so we would never have to deal with parking ever again.

Yesterday, much to our horror, we discovered that the house we covet is up for sale. After daydreaming "what if?", and oggling the mediocre interior deocorating and amazing space that we would love to get our hands on, sticker shock finally sunk in. 13 Leroy is on the block for $8.95 million.

The floorplan says it all.

Bought only three years ago by Andrew Rasiej, who made his money from founding Irving Plaza and selling Digital Club Network, it cost him less than $2m to buy and $1.75m to transform with the help of Wayne Turett, of Turett Collaborative Architects. It is a stunning four story building with huge glass walls running up the back and lawns to mow on multiple roofs. This house was featured in a big spread in the Times earlier this year.

So the question is, why is he selling so soon? Does he need more space? MGR

I'm guessing the $5m+ potential profit is driving him just a bit...

that's crazy, i walk past that apt every day - i was there when they were threading the ivy through the fence in front. i've been totally in love with it and i had no clue how amazing it was inside.
