apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Bright Color on the Lower East Side
The New York Times

Inspired by visits to Mexican cities (like Oaxaca and Xalapa), Boris Fishman used bold color to transform his Lower East Side co-op into what he calls his “hacienda in the sky.” In the latest Habitats column, The New York Times gives us a peek at a cookie-cutter apartment from the 1950s transformed with color...

Nice color, but I don't think much of his picture hanging abilities!

What's with the one lonely picture over the sofa? Strange.

I would agree, black furniture against that wall gives the room an ominous feel and I agree, that picture is too small and much too high to be any good where it is.

Also, furniture placement is all wrong, unless the shape of the room prevents him from much in the way of furniture layout choices.

also, not too keen on his bathroom vanity, looks naked IMO.

Ehh... I guess it is his background that makes this apartment newsworthy. Good for him for being bold and risky, but I don't know if it is worth featuring on a design blog.

Yikes. As its been said, that little picture over the sofa is just not right. Colour is great, but I think a person making such bold paint choices should be better able to pull everything together .

That said, I love his coffee table. (Even though its a little short for his sofa)

This is NY Times worthy? I don't get it, maybe I'm stupid.

I like the kitchen and coffee table. Larger art or more framed art on the walls, please. The bookshelves feel stuck in that corner. If I wanted to be bold I'd get a bright throw for the sofa....
