The Wall Street Journal gives us a glimpse of the 2,700-square-foot, two-story home of fashion designer John Bartlett and framer John Esty. The couple rents their duplex in a West Village brownstone but tore down walls to create an open and airy space for both living and Bartlett's studio space (they even host runway shows in the home!)...

They tore down walls in a rental? Wow, their landlord must be an easygoing person.

i love that this is colorful but not too busy. there's a vibrant restraint that is really working for me here. I'm trying to remember that in my own home... less is more (as long as it brings that POP).

His taste in decorating is just as pared down and elegant as his taste in clothing design.

The occupants' restraint is admirable. That bright rug needs nothing else!
