Tiny Private Islands Around the World
Premier Holidays

Premier Holidays has rounded up 5 private islands in North and Central America — and these escapes are bound to make you green with envy!

• This home, named Just Room Enough is on one of the tiny islands among 1000 Island in the St. Lawrence River, just south of the Canadian border in New York State.
• We posted Clingstone House off the coast of Newport, Rhode Island last year.
• There are many small homes on the Las Isletas archipelago in Nicaragua. Would you like to live on Central America’s largest lake?
• This home is on one of the tiny Les Cheneaux Islands off the south coast of Cedarville, Michigan - the Upper Peninsula!
• Dunbar Rock Home off the island of Guanaja, Honduras

You can see all these homes and links to their locations on Google Maps from Premier Holiday: 5 Insanely Small And Inhabited Private Islands.

Wow, these are awesome. Even though they're in the middle of huge open water, something about the smaller homes makes me feel a little claustrophobic. I like that last one, though.

A family member recently placed their private island up for sale... it's located near Sanibel and Ft. Myers Florida. It's one of the few privately owned islands in the area and it has a fantastic house on it.

Whenever I see buildings like this, my compassion for when (not if) a hurricane or other big storm comes is pretty much out the door. Yes, they're cute and lovely, but totally asking to be destroyed.

Aaron, I couldn't resist sending the following link to a virtual tour of the amazing Taj Lake Palace in India...for something completely different. I've been intrigued about this place for some time, and just recently discovered this virtual tour. If anyone has had the pleasure of visiting...well, just wow!

Las Isletas in Nicaragua are very accessible to visitors as they are right near the well-touristed city of Granada (which is lovely itself and very historic). Day trips between the isletas, with a home cooked lunch on one of them, are easy to arrange. The isletas are a community with children growing up there, taking boats to school and such.

The lake in which they sit is huge, so huge that it has not just tiny home-sized islands, but a large one of two volcanoes with several towns and nearly 40,000 residents.
