Recycled Blanket Rug by Tejo Remy and Rene VeenHuizen

02.19.rug.jpg

This recycled blanket rug by Tejo Remy and Rene VeenHuizen uses strips of old blankets in a new way. Turned on edge, the blanket strips give the rug cush and a luxurious thickness that's awesome underfoot...

Remy and VeenHuizen have come up with other innovative recycling projects in the past, like these Tennis Ball Benches. This rug makes us want to take old blankets off the bed and get to work on reshaping them for the floor. Via: Shakadoo.

It reminds me of Keith Haring's art. :)

It reminds me of an oil spill.

Crispina's does something similar with old sweaters in varying shades of the same hue, as celinai requests: http://www.crispina.com/collections/rugs.html

Here's what one looks like in my place: http://www.flickr.com/photos/13528704@N03/1440260440/in/set-72157602167937603/

I really like the organic shape of the Remy and VeenHuizen rugs. brilliant!

Interesting...I'd be tripping on the edges all day, though.

Love it for a kids room or a bright office or kitchen. I wonder if any chairs with spindley legs would get caught up?

hummmmm ..... interesting concept, to say the least, ....but I don't think I'd like it as part of my decor.

My grandmother used to make rugs like this (except as plain ovals) using old clothing. She would make "ropes" from the fabric, sort of like long tubes, then either braid the ropes and sew the braids together, or simply coil the rope and sew as she went. They were gorgeous... I wonder if there are any lurking in storage somewhere...
