The Portica Table Collection for example, has a stainless steel base but is available in whatever width, height, and length your odd shaped room might demand. The Hancock Table Collection, pictured below, is also customizable, but comes with the added bonus of one or two extensions at either end. So you can have a small table most of the time and then expand it to fill your large living room, or your small studio aka 'dining room on special occasions.'
The Infinity Mirror collection is another favorite in the fit-your-own-situation category. They come in any size you'd like, also down to the inch.
If you really want to build your own storage unit, basically from scratch, go for the Linear line. As long as you don't have a problem with right angles, there is almost no reason this line won't fulfill your every last request. Each aspect of the process has options, from the material used, to the method of opening the drawer, to the transparency of each facade element.
Clearly, there's no excuse to feel slave to the off-the-shelf selection. Be as picky as you like, and be proud of your unique home--be it miniature or octagonal, high in the sky or underground.

I just bought the Portico table with a glass top from R&B. I highly recommend them. I was having a hard time finding the right size table for my railroad style apt. I was able to get this one in 60" x 30" and it fits perfectly. Now if i could only find the right chairs!

Like any custom work - pricing is dependent on your specific choices - and there are too many to show on the site.
I helped a friend choose a walnut Linear custom system for his home office/alcove - the workmanship is beautiful and there's a place for everything.

I recently purchased the Andover 78x38 Extension Table from R&B and was very disappointed with the quality. The under side was heavily damaged (holes and scratches) with notes written in pen in multiple places.

There is actually an approx pricing guide for the custom work... if i remember correctly it's a pdf you have to download and then there's a table where you pick your length and width and it gives you an approx price. I've been thinking about getting one custom because I'm looking for a long skinny table, around 80" x 30".
I love Room & Board. LOVE. Although, I think the marketing execs at R&B should have let AT write this post... reads a little like an "advertorial."

My husband and I bought a cherry-topped Portica table a couple of years ago. We are very meticulous with our stuff (to the point that we are mercifully ridiculed for it by our relatives), but we can't even LOOK at this table without it getting scratched. I think the finish is only measurable in angstroms. I am so disappointed. It does seem to be a pretty solid block of cherry though, so one of these days I'm going to dismantle and get it refinished by someone who knows what they're doing. Why would you take such beautiful wood and put a finish on it so thin that a paper towel could scratch it?
We also bought some leather chairs from Room and Board at the same time and they are coming apart. I love the look of their stuff, but despite their great customer service I'd have to say, "Never again."
