Katy's 'Shadow Gray' Bedroom
Room for Color - East #23

thumbs up

Name: Katy
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Type of Home: owned co-op apartment

Color Inspiration: I love varying shades of gray. Not only is gray super smooth, but it seriously soothes. Great for a bedroom. I didn't "decorate" with this in mind, but thankfully there is a comfortable mixture of tones from my dusty purple bedding and the walnut dresser and gramp's leather chair set against the white woodwork all around. It just came together for me, and that gray wall made it happen.

Give Katy a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

Smooth Move

Colors Used: Benjamin Moore "Shadow Gray"

Color Tip: It took us FOREVER to finally use some color in the apartment. Then, it took us HOURS to decide on the grays we'd use...so don't listen to me! JUST GO FOR IT!

This room immediately made me think of Carrie Bradshaw's bedroom on Sex and the City. It's the colors, the layout, the touches of old school glamor, and the leather chair. I loved that bedroom and I love this one too. Gray is a wonderful color for the bedroom.

Super serene - nice and soothing colours, not too sparse, and very personal. Mmmm, dusty purple and warm grey - very elegant.
Nice work Katy!

Very, very nice. Love the artwork. And love the fact it looks like someone lives there.

Littlebrownbird, the artwork above the bed is "La Cama" by Fernando Botero. He's fantastic.

I love the combination of gray and purple. My bedroom has a similar color scheme.

This bedroom reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw's as well.

I love everyth in this bedroom--besides the colors used, I love the unmade aspect of your bedding!

Have always wanted to paint with grey but everyone I know who's tried has ended up with something darker than they'd planned. With my little place, I'm afraid to risk it!

Very soothing indeed! I love Fernando Botero too! Thinking of using the same picture above your bed in my bathroom!
Which brings me to ask why you get the picture in your bathroom? Looking for some reds in my bathroom!

Gorgeous room, really chic!

Ohn0dino - I may be wrong, but the bedside table looks exactly like the Ikea vika annefors workspace table leg... what a great way of using it!

hey all!! thanks so much for the comments :)

yes, that is the IKEA vika annefors table leg I'm using as a nightstand. i spent the last 6 months looking for a good fit and it's working out wonderfully!

and yeppers, that's a Botero above the bed. it was once hanging in my grandmother's DINING ROOM if you can believe it heheh

the rumpled and messy awesome dusty-purplish-gray bedding is my all-time "super score" story - i got about $500 worth of calvin klein bedding on clearance for $50! it's a discontinued incarnation of the "bamboo flowers" design. i love macy's clearance bins!

thanks all!

Is it asking too much that a person merely straighten out their bedding before taking a picture of their bed? I don't think it looks lived-in -- I think it looks like spiders might be lying in wait.

No colour, much too bland for a COLOR CONTEST, nothing really jumps out.

Disagree strongly with smoothsailing and jdoz. Subtle and dreamy colours are colours too. Not everything has to bludgeon you over the head.

It works really well with the wood tones on the floor.
