Roomark: Kevin's Total Kitchen Remodel

IMG_0350.jpg

Our kitchen we remodeled ourselves -

We bought the cabinet bodies, knock down, from Cabparts in Colorado, www.cabparts.com. The fronts were purchased from Keystone, www.keystonedoors.com. We assembled them ourselves. The subway tile was from Daltile. The floating shelves were made at our local lumber store, and we painted them. They are held up with heavy duty L-brackets that are buried into the wall on the studs before the tile was put on. We made the stainless steel pot rack from rails and components from www.brassrailing.com. The entire kitchen, including the marble countertops, what just the cabinets were quoted from a local fine cabinetmaker.

what an incredible job! I love everything..the walls..the counters..all of it! Was the pot rack difficult to make?

My friend just did her kitchen using very similar colors, but with a red Viking stove on one wall and a red floor to ceiling cabinet/shelving unit on another wall. White subway tiles, soft greys on the walls and cabinets, concrete counters, and then that RED!! She has an oversized painting of a red pomegranate in there, too. It's so gorgeous.

Hi Guys, Thanks for all your nice comments! I just read them all..

To answer a few questions:
can you tell me the paint color used?: its C2 paint, which I love, it has beautiful colors. The color is TITANIUM > 472-P > SATIN

can you show us the floor?: the floor is the original oak plank.

that's a good-looking stove. may I ask what brand it is? It is a Viking.

Was the pot rack difficult to make? It was super easy....you buy all the parts from the website I listed above, use a pipe cutter to cut the pipe down (those manual ones you buy at the hardware store for cutting copper pipe), and connect it...the connections come with set screws. Make sure you put tape around the pipe when you are cutting it to keep the pipe cutter from scratching.

love it! the idea of mounting the L brackets on the studs prior to drywalling is genious. Was it hard to tile around the part that stuck out?

Hi Guys, to answer a few more questions:

Was it hard to tile around the part that stuck out? Not at all@ easy peasy!

What brand/paint color is that? It's great!: The paint is C2, the best colors on the market, in my opinion, see the above post for the color

Looks great!

Anyone know what brand and model the range is? It looks like a Viking, but all the ranges I am finding have 6 knobs not 5.

Kevin, do you have a website or photo set detailing the renovation? The whole thing is just lovely, I would be really interested in seeing the process. Or even just seeing more pictures of the finished product!

als1, I do not have a website detailing the renovation. AT is considering running a House Tour of the house, but I have to take some more photos for them to really get a beefy story...at some point I will try and and do a website with some photos I have taken!

I love this minimalist kitchen! But, where are the cupboards and what do you do for storage?

There is lots of storage below, the cabinets have huge wide and deep drawers...you are not seeing the below cabinets under the bar area. There is also a pantry off the right side of the room with floor-to-ceiling cabs. I don't care for upper cabinets in kitchens, I prefer open storage, and tall walls of tile. But that's just me :-)

Nice job! I would love to cook in your kitchen. The floating shelves were a stroke of genius. I particularly like the trio of objects on the upper left shelf.

Like the kitchen very much! How was your experience with Keystone? Could you give an idea on their prices? How quickly did they deliver? Did you deal with them directly? I really like one of their door styles and I am thinking of using them in combination with IKEA cabinets. Thank you in advance, I realize I am asking a lot of questions.

Hi Genya, Keystone is great. Prices are great to, especially consdering they are solid wood. They offer black and white paint as well. If you order them, do so without the hinge counterbores, as they may not match the ikea 32mm hole spacing. You can buy a hole-borer template at most big box hardware stores, or at Woodcraft online. That way you can position the hinges exactly to match the holes in the IKEA bases. They deliver within 4 to 6 weeks or so.

Love you Kitchen..always thought I wanted white cabinets and a dark counter top...now seeing yours with dark cabinets and white marble counter tops...might have changed my mind. Love the tile on the walls too. Nice.

Kevin, thank you for your response! Did you work with them keystone directly or through a contractor? Would you know of any place to check out their good in NYC or around here? I really like one of their "traditional" styles, and the concept of solid wood in "natural" is very appealing given that we are in a Victorian.... Thank you again!
