apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

My Red Office

I cannot leave well enough alone. Our apartment has a great big, deep closet inside our entry and I just thought...what a perfect cubby for a little office. I removed the closet doors which were cumbersome and added a linen curtain. It immediately opened up our entry and gave me a cozy spot to read my mail, sip my coffee and read my latest mag.

I know and love Shelley very, very much and this tiny room is a great example of her impeccable style and creativity. If only she could show the world the brilliance of the rest of her house, including the hand made dress made of beautiful magazines ads on display, or her collection of vintage dolls on display in the room we plan to violate the fashion world, or perhaps her beautiful living room filled with her art and re upholstery.

I love you, lady!! Great work, on this room and the rest!

I am blushing!!! Thank you for your kind comments everyone! So here is the scoop on the mirrors.....hit all the thrift stores you can - Goodwill, Salvation army and if you do not have any luck there, try Ebay. I found mine at a combination of all of these and it took me just a couple of weeks to locate these, plus 4 or 5 more. I narrowed the grouping down to a smaller group which shares the same kind of carved frame. I painted them with high gloss red paint from the hardware store- 2 coats.... That's it!
I know it's a bold move to use all those mirrors in a tiny space, but they really reflect light and make the space seem larger. Also, building the desk into the room saved inches. I barely spent any money on this project, which pleases me beyond words.... good luck!

I too know (and love) Shelley and if you think this is creative, you should see her entire place! Every nook, every cranny, every where you look it's a showcase of incredible creations and ideas. I vote that she keeps on posting!

I love the pop of red color. The material for the desk looks interesting too. Is it just extra thick plastic or some counter top?

I'm definitely going to steal your idea and do the mirror grouping somewhere in my house!
