Wow. I'll admit that I've used the phrase "looks like a Pottery Barn catalog" in a derogatory way in the past, but many of these set-ups are quite attractive... obviously I need to look more closely at this place's offerings!

Wouldn't want to LIVE in a PB (or IKEA, or...) catalog, but certainly there are worthwhile elements to be found here! Thanks for the wake-up.

I'm with you. It's pretty close to my style as it is and it's so organized and neat that it makes me want to move in. That Benchwright tower is going on my list of "furniture I want but need to find a use for" and I love the chandelier. The "kerosene" lamps made me smile.

That chandelier...looks like they walked down the same street I did in Bologna.

We have managed to keep the PB to a minimum. Just as one could not really live in an Ikea catalog (or 300 sq ft) demo apartment, Pottery Barn has a look that is nearly toxic. I can't abide the heavy woods in their tables (the one pictured above for example). And what is that dust catcher hanging over the table? You call that a chandelier?

But Pottery Barn does have some wonderful individual pieces. We bought a couple of rugs from them, and they hold up well. We did find that an oriental rug merchant with a good sale can sometimes match or beat their machine made rugs with genuine hand made originals.

I like their bath fixtures, and we bought a set of nobs and pulls for our kitchen cabinets from PB.

If nothing else, they give you some style points, and inadvertantly a few points to avoid as well.

I'm not so into their current "basket-chic" thing, but I can always walk into PB and find something that I like. Everything is accessible and decently made, and the price point is within my "impulse buy" range. I wouldn't want to live in the store, but I'd take a hefty gift certificate...

@Usbek de Perse, just because you dislike the heavy wood doesn't mean their look is toxic, it just means you don't like it. Other people do like it. The least you could do is respect the fact that some people have opinions that don't match up with yours. All it would have taken was an "I think" in front of "their look is nearly toxic."

The pillows on that couch are beautiful.
