Under our nose. A few days ago we took a new route back to the office. As a result we passed by the windows of Double Knot on White Street and stopped in our tracks. Behind huge glass windows was the most inviting room of hand-woven rugs we have yet seen.
Double Knot is only about a year old and is the joint effort of a young couple with a passion for rugs. Murat and Maria Kupcu have set up their store to show off their rugs - from Turkey, Persia, the Caucasus and Central Asia - and to highlight their more affordable prices.
"At prices that make sense." is their motto, and we found them to be very competitively priced. While hand made will never beat Ikea on price, they have a large selection of rugs for under $3,000 and many woven textiles for under $1000. We think this would be a great store to learn and grow with over time.

Double Knot is a wonderful store with higly knowledgeable and friendly Murat Kupcu at the helm!
We love the rug we purchased there and hope to buy more....
I just found this wonderful store, and if you love interesting rugs, its like finding a new candy store (and right here in the neighborhood!)
The selection is exceptional, and the service is very professional. Murat is knowledgeable and helpful; also very patient.
I could not resist purchasing 2 exceptional Gabbehs, and I'm looking forward to visiting this great new store again to discover another unexpected treasure to add to my collection.
It is rare in NYC that you stumble across a shop like Double Knot, especially when it comes to rugs. Murat, the owner, was fabulous - his knowledge of rugs is extensive, and he explains all about each kind of rug if you are a novice. He explained how his rugs are priced (which is very fair, some great deals - you don't feel like you are being taken advantage of like we felt at ABC Carpet and other rug stores). We found several rugs that we liked, and he delivered them to our apartment personally so we could try them. Then he saw our apartment, and understood exactly what we were looking for. That night he called his colleagues in other states and found a rug that was perfect for us! He emailed us pictures and had it shipped (at no cost to us) within two days for us to consider (no commitment). Murat also delivered a rug pad to us, which was included in the overall price. It was a refreshing experience to work with Murat - a truly professional, trustworthly expert that made buying a rug a great experience.
a gem of a store with beautiful and unique turkish rugs. a very laid-back but knowledgeable owner adds to the comfort of the gallery.
i recently bought a cute kilim and a tulu, both very moderately priced considering the quality.
highly recommended.
Unbeatable value, incredible service. I've now got two gorgeous Kayseris in my apartment, thanks to Murat--who has an almost psychic ability to figure out quickly what options are available to suit perfectly your tastes and budget.
The first thing that strikes you when working with Murat is his love for the artistry of the rugs in his showroom. Because he has hand-picked each rug, he is extremely knowledgeable about the provenance of each rug, and eager to share the information with you. It is also plainly evident that he is more concerned with matching you with the right carpet, than he is with convincing you to purchase the largest rug on the floor.
The moment that I placed my full trust in Murat was when we were discussing the care of each carpet, and he described to me, not how I should care for the rugs, but how his own grandmother and aunts care for their rugs. A subtle distinction, but one that makes all the difference.
I have purchased a number of carpets in Turkey and other parts of Asia, and never have a had a more comfortable experience.
When my wife and I were in need of some great rugs for our new apartment we we went through the mounds of rugs at ABC and on lower 5th Avenue and were not able to find anything that we loved, while at the same time feeling like we could not trust that the rugs offered to us were worth the price. Then we stumbled on Murat's shop, a mirror oposite of all the other places. Murat spent hours with us on several occasions teaching us about rugs and carpets (ask him to explain the difference) and personally delivering them to our apartment and trying them out. As other reviewers have mentioned, Murat will help you find the best rug for you, irrespective of price, and unlike other places there is absolutely no pressure to buy. When you do find something you love, I am certain that the price Murat offers is the price one should fairly pay. In addition, his selection is fabulous for such a small space, a testament to his excellent asthetic. This should be your first and last stop--everything else will just disappoint.

This is a great store. Really wonderful rugs . Persian rugs can be bought on the web from sites like rugs USA but there is nothing to seeing it in person.
