IKEA's HULDA Rugs

Bold Color. We love the colors and patterns on these new rugs from IKEA! As typography nuts, we're especially fond of the red HULDA STÄMPEL. Both the white/green HULDA VILSE and HULDA STÄMPEL measure 90" x 52". Both rugs are at the extreme low-end and are made of heat-set polypropylene — keeping the prices remarkably low. HULDA STÄMPEL (red) sells for $29.99 and HULDA VILSE sells for $39.99...

When we were in college we had an IKEA rug made of polypropylene. It wasn't the nicest, but it served it's purpose for a few years for $19.99!

I'm a typography nut, myself, but that rug gives me a headache. It would be much easier to look at in charcoal and cream, rather than hot red and white.

I do like the VILSE, though. Might look nice as an Ikea-Hacked wall piece.

Not to be a stickler or anything but I would consider those letterforms and lettering more than typography.

My point of view may be highly unpopular, but many of Ikea's newest items look terrible in-person. Recently I made a special trip to Ikea (located in another city) to see some of the new stuff and left disappointed. I liked the concepts and shapes of things, but the colours were frightening. This is, of course, coming from a girl who paints everything green.

PrettyKitty - in our house, at least, painting everything green is a Good Thing.

For the rugs - I think polypropylene is some kind of plastic. If so it wouldn't be coming in the house. If they were wool I probably couldn't afford it, but I'd be thinking of putting the green one in the bedroom, maybe...

Aside from their cotton loop bathroom rugs, every piece of carpet ever purchased at Ikea has been a bitter disappointment: far to much shedding and fraying for my liking.

the opoponax, I am with you on hacking the Vilse rug. For some odd reason, I think it would look pretty cool as the covering for a headboard. The Stampel may also work as a wall-mounted piece in a fairly spartan, predominantly white space. Way to go, Ikea!

Cool idea as a headboard but I have had some weird IKEA rug shedding incidences, specifically a white powdery substance which collects beneath them. I'm not sure I'd want it sprinkling onto my head at night.

IKEA rugs shed because they are cheap hand tufted rugs that are glued to a basic canvas backing. If you buy hand knotted the rug will not shed as much
