Ombre Rug from West Elm

4-18-ombre-rug.jpgOmbre, from the French for shade or shadow, has been gaining in popularity lately (the catalyst was Prada's fall collection from '07) and the fashion trend has trickled down to housewares at West Elm...

The Ombre Rug is available in three colors (cinnabar, twilight and steel) and five sizes. Prices start at $109 for 3' x 5' and top out at $759 for 9' x 12'.

I bought the orange one and was very disappointed in the colors--online and in the catalog it looked like it faded from dark red through dark orange into light orange, but in person it was much more peach-y than orange. I returned it.

This is what I know from my experience:

West Elm 101: Go to the store and see it first.

It's a shame that some of their stuff is "online" only. Makes it difficult to decide as their quality and representation is sometimes wobbly.

These rugs reminded me of Fabien Baron's rug collection. For a lot lot less.

My theory on "available online and catalog only" is that these are items which photograph well but would not impress in person. I would be willing to try those items, but only if I could return them directly to the store.

This is not an internet/catalog only item...a few of the sizes and the gray are only stocked online. I saw this in person last weekend at the Chelsea West Elm and I thought it was worth posting.

I agree with Aaron... i was at the chelsea west elm last weekend and i really liked these. Probably going to go with the blue one. It looks great in person, especially under a white couch!

These are over priced tufted rugs from either India or China. You can get better ones here

Some great looking rugs! I went with an oriental rug and don't know what I did before I had it, it's great!

Fabulous, I wish it came in more colors, like plum or indigo.

Franco, I was just about to say the same thing. I saw a similar rug on Rugs Usa too. I think that the kaleen regency collection is great, but if you're going for something without a border you can also check out the following on Rugs Usa:

I found this site to be a great source for rugs in general and I tell all my friends about it. They're constantly providing great savings and I've been very happy with all 3 of the rugs that I've bought from them for my new home.
