Recycled Plastic Doormat from The Spiral Foundation

02-23-mat.jpg

Welcoming trash. This Recycled Plastic Doormat is made of plastic discarded food wrappers. It's available, among other handmade recycled products, through the Spiral Foundation shop.

The Spiral Foundation is a humanitarian not-for-profit that provides medical and educational assistance to Vietnamese and Nepalese in need. They also employ Vietnamese and Nepalese workers, on an hourly basis (not per-piece), to create the products sold in Spiral Foundation's shop. All net proceeds from the handicraft sales are returned to Vietnam and Nepal to fund primary health care, medical and educational projects, giving to those involved in the production process a sense of pride that comes by helping and sustaining many others, in even greater need than themselves.

And most of what you'll find here not only goes to a good cause, but is also manufactured from recycled materials: All items are produced with a consciousness towards the environment. Discarded materials are often used for / or incorporated in our gift line. All items are produced with a consciousness towards the preservation and the revival of the local handicraft traditions.

My Grandma used to weave old bread sacks into things. Part of that living through the Depression thing - and re-using everything whether it had value or not.
(My mom kept used aluminum foil for re-use)

Can't remember what though.... a rug I think... and it seems like trivets are the other answer but they wouldn't be heat retardant would they?
