Snakes are one thing, but snakes in H2o......eeeeeek! I hope they're eels, but it still is not pleasant to look at.

1. Many of the freshwater food fish species require murky brown water for optimum health. This would look unattractive and smell far worse. Definitely not a positive design element.

2. Most city dwellers are going to be as squeamish about killing the "pet" fish they raised as they would be about killing a rabbit or chicken for food.

3. Aquaculture facilities operate on an economy of scale. Considering the amount of energy you'd burn to raise three food fish in your living room (think of purifying the water, heating the tank, etc.), you'd might as well buy the fish fillet that was shipped in from the coast.

furthermore, got to love how the head of the one is slightly peeking out of the water, eyeing the dude in the photo, waiting for him to perhaps come over and stick his hand in there...fun..

I really like the glass potted plants, though you can keep the tanks of fish/eels.
