NY Scavenger: 8 Arne Vodder Teak Danish Modern swivel back dining chairs for $6500

Oval.1.1.jpgGroup vote time.

Is this set of 8 Arne Vodder Teak Danish Modern swivel back dining chairs worth the price tag -- $6500? We've seen them kicking around Craigslist for a while, so maybe that answers the question. Or maybe they haven't been displayed in the proper venue to appreciate their design genius?

Would you buy them without the corresponding table? So many questions...

If I was trying to put together an iconic 1950's Danish Modern dining room I would definitely consider these chairs. They're a nice design from a well known Danish designer and they telegraph that era from a mile away. But I think they're overpriced, even assuming they're in fine condition. I've seen Vodder chairs like this go for $300-500 in Denmark, depending on the style and condition. Even adding a premium for buying them in the States, $800 /chair would seem to be stretch. Long time on Craig's list suggests that the market agrees with this assessment.

As for the table, it looks like a generic oval extension table from Skovby, which I think first appeared in the 70's and are still in production. If I had the $$ for the chairs I would rather pair them with a teak table from the same era (50's/60's).

They're a nice example of Danish modern, but there's nothing so special about them to warrant that price tag.
