Carol's got a 19th Century Chaise that her new kitten is showing interest in. While hideous (to us) in this fabric, the shape is spectacular and would be awesome reupholstered.

How about some tips for dealing with felines and furniture? My cat's just ruining my daybed, but I can't bear to part with either one of them. Does that bitter apple stuff work?
It does, you can also wrap the legs (if that's were he/she is scratching) with aluminum foil. They HATE it. and then, when they're sick of it, remove!
The cat's legs or the chaise legs? Just kidding!
The only product that keeps my cat from scratching my furniture to pieces (he's taken out two chairs, a sofa, and part of the carpet) is "Feliway" Cat Pheromone Spray. It's pricey compared to other products but it works. (It just smells a little like alcohol when you first spray it then there is no smell - and it hasn't stained any upholstery so far).
Oh man. To be in NYC... That Shefco cabinet AND cast iron bed would be MINE. Good stuff today.
That's a *fainting couch*, not a chaise longue.....
For the life of me, I've never understood why people can't train their cats. It's so SIMPLE - just get a child's water pistol, keep it at the ready and when the cat's about to start a workout, shoot it. All my life we did it this way, and it works. Along with a metal can filled pennies. Works on older cats, too....you just have to be persistent and firm. I have a great two and a half foot high scratch post that my cat uses all the time, and of course I have to trim his nails once per week, otherwise I'm a bloody mess after playtime.....
One of my cats likes to get wet, so no water-pistol for him. The other one is semi-feral, but I'm making progress in socializing himm -- the water-pistol would set our budding relationship back...
Sorry I misidentified the item. Yes, the fabric is drab, to say the least. I'm slowly replacing my "urban amish" furniture with a more modern look, so the kitties aren't the whole reason it's on the block.
