Now that's a sales pitch. This lovely antique rocking chair is not only in excellent condition, but its current owner is willing to deliver it to you. The paint looks great and the rocking is proclaimed to be silky smooth, so what's stopping you from snapping this bad boy up? -MM

The Mid-Century Black Leather sofa is priced entirely way too highwhich is why it has been showing up every week!
Aaron:
I completely agree that the Mid-C Black Leather sofa is grossly overpriced.
So, I understand why the seller keeps re-posting the ad to craigslist.
However, I'm baffled why this sofa continually re-appears in AT's Scavenger. I have no problem with Scavenger re-posting items that are really unique (and therefore hard to sell), but why give a greedy seller any more exposure than a one-time posting. Besides, it gets a little dull seeing the same junk posted over and over.
And for anyone interested, I have a lovely soapbox for sale -- asking only $1,300!
Ok, when I post the sofa tomorrow, I'll put a little exclamation point next to the price to express my outrage at the exorbitant asking price.
Seriously though, the "same junk" gets posted because sometimes the pickings on craigslist gets rather slim and I have a quota to fill. Last night was a tough night for me to find good stuff. I try to stay away from obvious dealers (sometimes they'll make the cut though). I do my best to find things that are true "steals." If something is overpriced, I expect that if a potential buyer is that interested, they'll be a big boy or girl and engage in the time honored tradition of haggling with the seller.
After doing the Scavenger column for about the last year and a half, I have my own thoughts and feelings about the sellers and buyers on craigslist, but I don't voice them because they're not really a forum for me to do that here.
Not sure if I offended with my earlier post, but I would like to clarify that (i) I didn't mean to imply that all or even most of the items on Scavenger are junk (in fact, it's the opposite -- most stuff is decent), and (ii) I *love* the Scavenger column, as I suspect most other AT readers do, too.
Anyone else curious to hear what Molly thinks about various craigslist people?
Molly--
Keep doing what you're doing. And I think your professionalism about CL posters is right on the money. So don't budge on that issue either.
But, since we're venting aboout CL...
as an occasional seller on CL, I think the CL shoppers have WAY crazy expectations about prices. I price fairly, based on the item and what I paid for it, yet people offer FRACTIONS of PENNIES on the dollar, and get quite huffy if I refuse to bend, or even if I make a counter offer. Quite frankly, at that point, I'd rather donate to Housing Works. And don't even get me started on the last minute back-outs, the no-shows AND the constant scam: "I'll send you a check for a gazillion dollars for your goods..." Consequently, I frequently have to relist items. Doesn't mean I have no clue to pricing, or that my stuff is junk, either.
Perhaps the owner of this sofa paid more, and just wants to get some of the money back. Big whoop. And leather ain't cheap, MCM or not.
Not sure how I feel about AT Aaron making that comment, either.
P2, I don't think there's any one "right" or "fair" price for anything... there are only multitudes of opinions. That's just the way markets work. And all of us (buyers and sellers alike) are entitled to our opinions.
