bed frames are something i'd be leery of buying from craigslist, especially at prices that are too good to be true. there's a serious bedbug epidemic going on, and while i don't want to believe people would be so shitty as to sell their infested stuff on the internet for money, when i see antique bedroom furniture going for under $100, i wonder.
That particular bed frame is from CT, where there is not a bed bug epidemic going on.
sorta true.
firstly, there are enough commuters and pied a terre types in CT that i'd be surprised if they hadn't started showing up there yet. secondly, these are by no means the first listings i've seen for really beautiful antique beds that the poster just happened to "not have room for" and was willing to part with for a tiny sum.
the bottom line? don't buy beds on craigslist that seem too good to be true.
do bedbugs really care whether they infest a bed frame or some other piece of furniture? i think not. so, the warning against overly cheap bed frames should apply to ALL furniture.
also, i ran across a bed bug blog > and it contains a "known infestations" list > with lots of NYC addresses. scary stuff.
sorry, the bed bug blog is:

and the "known infestations" list is:

well you're more likely to find them in beds or bedroom furniture. because they're BEDbugs and like to bite people while they sleep.
hard to do that if you're kickin it old school in the coffee table three rooms away.
which isn't to say you CAN'T get them from other furniture, but i'd be more careful of beds (and anything upholstered!) than other things.
