Scavenger: Curtis Jere Wall Sculpture for $1000

at43848f102e9c33.63286330.jpgBK is selling his\her Curtis Jere Wall Sculpture. We had no idea who Jere was until we did a little sleuthing around the internet. The info is all a bit sketchy, but he seems to have been a well known metal sculptor in the 60's and 70's out in California. Many people on the net have pieces of his work, from sculptures to lamps, signed by him. Although he appears to be deceased, his son, Peter Fels, is alive, sculpts in metal still and has a website. Curtis Jere also is reported to have sold his name and a company called Artisan House still sells work based on his designs. We discovered most of this by following a very interestig thread over at TrueFresco.com

$4,000 for a flat file. $1,000 for an armoire. Craigslist posters' prices have gotten out of control. If the furniture's truly that valuable, the sellers should auction it through Christie's, not a community bulletin board.

When I'm at the folks' for Christmas I'll have to check out the ugly metal leafy sculpture thing in the living room - it's been there since the late 60's or early 70's---hmmmm....maybe it's actually worth something? (if Santa is online, I just know this is going to put me on that bad list....)

I bought a metal sculpture of leaves of Curtis Jere's in 1967, from Robinson's in Los Angeles. It said he was born in New York 1917. I still have it on my wall, tho. I have moved many times. Hadn't thought of selling it; however, I'm moving once again (last time!)in June, & won't be able to take it w/me.
