NY Good Questions: Reviews of the Milano Verona Bench?

12.18bench.jpgHello AT,

What do the AT viewers think of the Milano Verona Bench?

It reminds me of the classic Nelson bench.

My problem is that I can't find any testimonials or reviews on the bench...

I'm looking to use it as a coffee table in my living room, but I can't tell whether the veneer makes it look really cheap, or whether the clean lines carry it.

Does anyone know what this table looks like in person?

Thanks! Sasha12.18room2.jpg

I have no experience with the bench above but I will gladly recommend Alvar Aalto's benches which are remarkably similar.

I'd say that if the bench fits your aesthetic and is of the proper size, and if it's construction is sound, go ahead and get it. It looks a wee bit less tip-overable than the Nelson bench, so that might be a good thing to consider.

I don't know the bench but a quick search shows that Overstock.com has it for $129 and the one review is 5 stars. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/36va9z

I have the same need as a coffee table--typical tables are to wide for my space. Good luck!

I actually have that exact bench, and use it as a coffee table. It's really sturdy, but not too heavy. I think it would look great with the clean, rectangular lines of your couch. I don't think it looks cheap at all (and I'm very picky about that). The color is nice and warm too. Since it has slats, I worried it might be bothersome when putting earrings and other small things down. But, actually, it hasn't been a problem since I always have magazines & books laying on it, and its a good excuse to top it with a cute tray or coasters.

jmw, brilliant! That is exactly the kind of commentary I'm looking for. Thank you!

Has anyone else seen it in person?

I ended up getting the bench and it was delivered last week. The wood is a shade darker than it appears in the photo-- I'd describe it as more of an espresso color. But it looks great! Good height for a coffee table. It is also very staticky, so I actually have to dust it...I have to say, I never expected to say that about a piece of furniture.

One move later, I can also confidently say that it scratches VERY easily. I think it's also being sold by Urban Outfitters now for twice the price of Overstock.
