Looking for a desk and willing to venture into the biggest smorgasbord of antiques on Atlantic Avenue? Horsemen Antiques is an old school bricks and mortar operation (no website) that has been on Atlantic Avenue for 40 years. Repeatedly winning "best of..." awards (like this one below in Citysearch) they are an essential stop when looking for English, French, Empire and American mid-century modern furniture...
At first glance, Horseman Antiques looks like a quaintly cluttered curio shop one might encounter after taking a wrong turn on a Connecticut foliage trip. But closer scrutiny of this cavernous emporium reveals a top-notch selection of furniture. Eager hagglers can attempt to bargain for the choicest pieces--the experienced staff will wiggle a bit on prices, but know when to draw the line.
The warehouse on Atlantic is 25,000 square feet and will keep you busy for hours (if you want it to) and the prices are very good for New Yawk. For the adventurous, they have a new, bigger store in Neptune, New Jersey which specializes in modern furniture. You have to dig, but the prices make it worth it.

I think the prices are a bit high for a junky, musty shop in Brooklyn. They do have a LOT of furniture and it's a fun place to explore, but I haven't bought anything there.
The last time I was in, a few months back, the owner/manager/guy-who-sits-behind-the-desk-on-the-phone-ignoring-everyone told me they were planning to close the Atlantic Ave. shop.

They re-did a small sofa for me a few years ago and the work was good, but the communication was awful and it took 3 follow-up visits to get my pillows (which they denied I'd dropped off but which I had them list on my receipt, so in the end they made me new ones) and they "couldn't find" my leftover fabric. And it was not really a big enough bargain to make up for all of the hassle.

Its not worth a trip. I lived near the store and visited frequently, but never found a good deal.
High priced junk shop. They will tell you everything is very special and underpriced.
