Frame Chair by Wouter Scheublin

We like stopping into Matter every now and then just to see what cool stuff Jaimie Gray has found and stocked. Today it's this weird chair, Frame Chair, by Wouter Scheublin (Holland), which is surprisingly comfortable and fun to sit in...

A brand new design manufactured by Established & Sons and launched at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2008 in Milan this spring, the Frame Chair is striking in its simplicity and its complexity at the same time. We mean, do you really need all those pieces to simply make a chair. Sitting is believing however, and the chair easily moves when pulled by hand (out from under a table, for example).

Says the youthful Wouter himself (b. 1979):

“I like the way a construction of simple laths, when assembled, suddenly transforms into a form with character.”

The chair comes in solid oiled oak, painted oak veneer, and aluminum (which should be VERY cool). Available at Matter for @ $600.

That is such a great looking chair. I assumed it was some sort of classic design when I saw the picture. Destined to be a classic.

All of these wood chairs with hard seats wouldn't look nearly so modern or sleek after I tie seat cushions on them. I can't imagine spending a whole evening sitting on that and being comfortable.

Oh, Aldyth! Just toss a fur on it!

I can't believe we're now doing "Wouter Scheublin (b.1979)"!

Well, I can, but let's face it, Wouter has probably spent the last couple of weeks playing GRAND THEFT AUTO IV.
