Ikea Olle Chairs

3-15-planner.jpg

Right after we blogged the McCobb Planner Group Chairs, and called them underexposed classics, we ran across this ridiculously affordable knock-off at Ikea: The Olle ($29)...

While not exactly the same thing, the Olle does have a very similar simple profile and light construction, and we're sure that Nike Karlsson had to have been looking at one when he drew this up for the Swedish Giant. Made of solid and birch veneers, this would be a great kitchen chair painted with a smooth coat of your favorite color.

I have these and they've been great; I had no idea they were referencing something else though

The McCobb chairs are direct rip-offs from George Nakashima's Straight Back Chair.

reuse. recycle. rip-off.

we have these chairs in black, and they are fantastic. we bought them after an extensive search of high-end dining chairs. we love the clean, simple lines and the idea that we will not feel bad about replacing them in the future.

But the IKEA chairs lack the beautiful proportions of the McCobb chairs. Apples and oranges...

"We"?!? Say it ain't so!

That chair from IKEA looks less like the McCobb and more like the kind of classic American farmhouse kitchen chair you'd find like, everywhere.

I think you might be stretching it quite a bit with the idea that its a reference to the McCobb. Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar.

inspired by maybe, but knock off ? even after a dozen swedish meatballs i would never have thought of the mccobb chair after seeing the olle.

please, these chairs are varieties of quaker classics. ain't no one rippin' off nobody.
i'm sick of these self-proclaimed design literates who presume to know the origins of all designs.
take the three legged stool...anybody like to claim patent on that? geezawiz

Apples and oranges?

Try apples and some crazy fruit no one's ever heard of!!

The Olle chairs look like the McCobb chairs... if you were completely blind.

They are similar, but i think the parts that differ are what makes the McCobb. That wider back, the larger seat and the way the legs get smaller as they go down. Maybe in person the Olle looks better?
