IKEA's Stockholm Collection

Impressive! While we were trekking through ICFF this weekend, some good friends made the journey to IKEA and brought back news of exciting new stuff — IKEA Stockholm. Pictured above are the Easy Chair, Cabinet, Serving Cart, and Dining Chair...

The second picture includes the Glass-door Cabinet, Sofa Table, Ladder, Stad Cushion, Blad Fabric and Ruta Cushion.

The IKEA website doesn't currently do a good job of rounding up this collection at a single place — you have to dig. That being said, it's worth digging. There is an extensive Stockholm shelving system (to accompany the ladder!), sofas, chairs, rugs, curtains, multiple tables, etc. On a whole, this is the nicest group of IKEA furniture we've seen in a long, long time.

If you do a search for "Stockholm" on the Ikea website, all the items seem to come up.

Sorry... most of the items come up in the search, but for some reason the cart, dining chair and pillows don't.

I found the best way to search for them on the IKEA website is to go to the NEW PRODUCTS page and then search each category individually. Some of the products are available for purchase online and some aren't. This could contribute to the confusion of searching...what a mess! IKEA really needs a better site....

There is a mini-site for the entire Stockholm range here:

(Go to showroom -> the whole collection to see each piece individually.)

The B&W rug is really beautiful in person! It's a flat wool weave, not a pile carpet.

Cool stuff, but the price point seems to be a little bit higher than Ikea's normal core products. I hope they don't get away from their bread and butter.

I saw this stuff in person at our nearby Ikea. I had heard about it and seen a few pictures here and there so I was excited to see it live, but I was a teeny bit disappointing. The upholstered chair was out on the floor in plain white and it just didn't feel sturdy enough to warrant the higher pricetag. Ditto all the other stuff we saw. It is really awesome looking and if the prices were normal Ikea prices I'm sure I'd spring for some of the items, but I'm not so sure the higher priced items would hold up over time...

The rugs look pretty cool.

I loved the look of the Easy Chair. Until I sat on it. Sadly, it's about as comfy as a boulder would be. The seat is hard as a rock. :(

eh, mostly terrible and certainly overpriced for what it is (sawdust mixed with glue!).

I don't know about the quality issues, but your friend sure does have great taste! ; )

i've checked the new items out in person several times. its now awful, but my brain keeps saying "sure that coffee table looks nicer than regular Ikea, but for $299, i could get one from the 50's from a flea market..."

not worth it, in my opinion.

I viewed this collection and "tested" the chair back at a show in Germany last Fall and agree, it's quite firm! A little too firm for me, but if you're looking for a chair as more of an accent or for Miss Kitty, it's perfect.

These are still better-than-average prices for furniture of this ilk.

You can pay way more for similar construction with*out* the nicely tweaked styles shown here.

I vote yes.
