NY Good Questions: Any Info. On These Chairs?

5.23furniture.jpgDear AT,

I spied a beautiful set of resin and raffia shell chairs in a recent issue of CS Interiors.

No one, including the store that sold them, seems to know anything about them other than that they are one-of-a-kind, but I wonder if you can shed some light on who might have designed or manufactured these, or where I might find something similar?...

They’re close to the Herman Miller chair, but not quite.

I think these would go beautifully with the Kyoto Table from Room and Board that I recently ordered, and I don’t want to leave any stone unturned before I give up and look for something else!

Any thoughts?

Thanks! TJ

I would imagine you could take any molded or bent wood chair and have them upholstered in the same way that molded interior car panels are upholstered - the fabric is adhered directly to the substrate. Locating molded or bent wood chairs shouldn't be a problem - there are hundreds of designs out there. It could be that your reference is just a very common fiberglass chair that has been rehabilitated with some great fabric.

Is this the article?

If it is, contact the person who owns the business and that home:
"the interior designer and owner of a new Chicago home-furnishings store, Michael Del Piero Good Design."

Here's the website:
http://www.michaeldelpiero.com/

Address is there, and there is a contact by form right on the website! YAY for online contact forms that are easy to find!

Here's a couple shots of the store interior (notice whose image is off to the right!)

So she doesn't just HAVE those chairs, she's in the business of finding neat stuff, and if anyone would know what they were and where to find more, she certainly would!

Chairs shown again here:

That is the CS Interiors article. I cannot read that small print. So I don't know what it says about the chairs.

However, I used that handy online contact form and...

According to her, Michael Del Piero, she is making those chairs but they are not yet ready for sale.

Hopefully she'll pop in here later, I sent the link to this NY Good Questions thread.

Thanks, guys, for the suggestions. It's TJ, who posted the question. RichardinLA, I'm pretty sure that the chairs have the raffia embedded in the resin, but the recovering is a great idea.

True Blue, thanks for the tip on Michael del Piero -- I also emailed her and got the same response. Fingers crossed that when she produces them, they still fit into my budget!
