The Strap Chair

2005_14_strap.jpgSturbridge Yankee is none too hip, but we really like this chair. An unusal design that has a little bit of the modern Thonet feel crossed with a Shaker practicality, the Strap Chair ($200) is made of stained wood and a rattan seat.

Forget going traditional, the Strap would be a good design to mix into a modern environment. It would soften it and lend it some eclecticism.

Because of the construction, we imagine the Strap is both light and strong enough to withstand daily use and abuse. At this price, we are apt to trust the quality, though "imported" does lend some mystery to its origin. MGR

I think you are definitely experiencing some post-vacation Franco-hankerings. This chair looks very Euro-bistro to me, in a good way. And it also looks like the chair used in a kicky Fosse number. Also in a good way. And it has an instant-vintage/timeless quality to it, too.

I saw a chair very much like this years ago on Bond Street in NYC. And was sorry not to have gotten it then.
Nice to see it now. Is this just mailorder or is there a shop?
