Beach Chair by Larry Laske

Headed for the beach this weekend? The Beach Chair, designed by Larry Laske, will be an added comfort...

Using the sandy beach as its seat, the Beach Chair is simply a seat back that's pushed down into the ground until stable. You can then use it to lounge to your heart's content.

Available in blue, green, and orange at Design Within Reach.

Seems like a good idea for a beach resort to have these available for guests but for personal ownership? It's $50 and you can't use it unless you can stick it into the sand or dirt.

has anyone tried these? I mean do they really work? I like the idea, but it doesn't look very comfortable...

I'm with snot on this one. I'm not into it at all.

As a native Southern Californian, I have never had the pleasure of being an beachgoer on the eastern US coast.

But I did pick up the best free beach seating tip while living in Brasil. No equipment necessary! Enviromentally friendly!

Arrive at the beach wrapped in your pareo. Dig an indentation in the sand with your bare heel large enough for you to have a slight back rest. Then nonchalantly lay your pareo down as ground cover. The less you lug, the cooler you look.

This would never work in NJ Shore sand -- it is too soft and the minute you leaned against it, it would fall right out. Anyway, what is the difference between carrying this, or a $10 folding beach chair?
