Chair Crutch by 5.5

Tongue-in-cheek AND really useful. This is incredible—what a great idea! Earlier today, design*sponge posted a bunch of cool products from French design collective 5.5 designers. There are so many ideas and designs on their page—but this one took the cake...

Now I need some broken chairs. —aaron

I can't imagine it would be very comfortable to have that little raised circular part imprinting itself into the underside of your thigh!

I don't know if it is more sad or more ugly. And if your $5 plastic KMart outdoor chair breaks why would you try to repair that? I just don't get it.

I'm all for tongue-in-cheek, but this is just plain weird.

The only way I would use something this ugly is if the chair was skirted and you couldn't see that there was a replacement leg there...

Why would you try to repair it? I don't know, maybe to avoid filling landfills with tons of useless non-degradable plastic? I'm always impressed when designers recycle or try to give a second life to broken objects. Love this chair crutch!

Stephanie - somebody who has the lack of taste to buy a $5 KMart plastic outdoor chair in the first place does not strike me as 1. somebody concerned about the environment or 2. somebody who would spend money on repair.

i'm seeing generalizing about everyone who might own one of those ubiquitous plastic chairs.

my aunt had a set on her porch and she made special padded quilted covers for them to make them more comfortable.

someone else might be grabbing chairs that are to be thrown away already and want to make them functional.

I like the crutch but i don't like the color!

I was JUST telling another design obsessed friend of mine last night that plastic chairs are not to be trusted!

This is hideous....WHO would choose such a colour? But I have to say I do love Valerie's idea of an actual little crutch....now that would be tounge in cheek.

I can't believe so many people are up in arms over the color when normally everyone on this site is falling all over themselves in regards to bright colors.

I stand by my liking of this color and product! (and kind of wish I had a broken chair to try it out on)
