Corky Lips by Neo Design Studio

11.09.corky_lips.jpg

Smacking of cork. These Corky Lips, designed by Neo Design Studio, are made of "cork leather" over a recycled foam core.

The designers call their approach "sensual-eco-friendly", bringing attractive shapes to the world of green. We love that it appears to be a solid form of cork - such a warm and friendly material.

I would love this kind of construction in a big, round, solid coffee table. DWR sells tiny little cork rounds-- I'd want the monster version but always thought it would be crazy expensive to have all that solid cork. But foam covered in cork? perfect.

Who will make me one?

I just sat through the whole exceedingly boring video on their site. Can't believe they didn't show someone sitting on this piece! I imagine it would be pliable. But maybe it's not.... I want to know what it does when it's actually used.

Actually it looks like you could turn this on its side and have a quasi-biomorphic coffee table or ottoman.

This is okay... but I think it would have been a lot more fun if they added some color. This kind of cork reminds me too much of plain old oriented strand board.

That first picture looks like part of a woman's torso lying on ther back with her legs up in the air.

I want to know HOW it was made? Any ideas or guesses? How do you close a seam like that?

That video was dull and led me to no greater understanding of the product at all. However, now I know that I wasted 1 minute and 25 seconds of my life on it. (The music didn't do anything for me either.)
