We love the Moroccan pouf--just not quite enough to spend the $250+ that they're often sold for. So we were excited to find a much more affordable version.

We love the Moroccan pouf--just not quite enough to spend the $250+ that they're often sold for. So we were excited to find a much more affordable version.

This much, much cheaper version was spotted by Candace from the Sale Rack. The pouf is from Ebay seller Crafts of Egypt and is selling at the bargain price of $19.99. According to Candace, the pouf isn't quite as large as the version from John Derian ($265) and it also doesn't have the same quality construction. But it is nearly $250 cheaper.
It does come unstuffed, so you'll have to figure out how to stuff your pouf. Candace used newspapers. And lots of people weighed in on filling poufs in this Good Questions.

Great idea from the Sale Rack. Keep the recessonista tips coming.

You had me until I looked closely and saw the embossed palm trees and pyramids. Yuk.

I am an avid TSR reader and I am happy to see it getting some much deserved attention. Looking forward to more collaborations in the future.

Yea and even at 19.99 it looks like a rip off. That is just plain bad.

The great thing about these poufs is that, especially for small-space living in New York, they provide a decorative place for guests to perch or put up their feet. When it's not in use it adds color and texture to the room. Great tip on an affordable way to pick these up! Thanks TSR!

After seeing the real deal at John Derian's store in Soho, I felt the same way about the embossed palm trees and pyramids. However, I realized I wasn't going to pay over $250 for something that my feet were going to rest on. So for $19 I figured it was worth checking out. Much to my surprise I loved what I received in the mail. No palm trees! John Derian it is not, but I am pretty happy with it.
Desire to Inspire had a great photo on how to use the pouf as a coffee table:

I happen to like the palm trees, but I feel like they're pretty subtle. And man, the price is right. Pretty good website too...my favorite is the Rent is Too Damn High guy.

Hi All,
I remember strolling past a store with "poufs" and other Moroccan themed furniture and fabrics in Chelsea Market recently, if any of you are interested.

As I recall when I did a simple google search (with a bit of deeper trolling through varies pagers) for poufs a few years back there were a few options for $95-120 each like the ones pictured in the top photo. With one woman, you could even ask her to try and look for a certain color if she was heading back to purchase more (to sell online). Sorry, not being that helpful in terms of links....but if I could google it with not much trouble, so can you.

I got a fantastic pouf for about $175, same or even better quality than what Derian is selling and stuffed!!!
Sheherazade on Orchard St. They bring them in directly from Morocco. Rachid, the owner, actually went way out of his way to fulfill my insatiable desire for a muted gold one. He is doing some other wonderful pieces as well--furniture upholstered with beautiful ikats, pillows, etc. plus rugs and other wonderful finds.
Their site is really only for reference, but here it is... http://www.bloomwire.com/sheherazade/contact_us.html

I would prefer to hold out and get one of from Tazi Designs http://www.tazidesigns.com/catalog/pouf. Not as expensive as Derian but not as cheap looking as the Palm Tree version

I just like the picture of the fireplace with brick around it - not fancy granite and the rest of it - just comfy brick. Very nice.

WOW $250 for those moroccan "poufs"? I paid about $25 dollars each for the two I bought in Marrakesh and I didn't even haggle with the vendor- and I got to see the workshop where he and his father made them. Mine are beautiful leather and beautifully embroidered with precise stitching and a beautiful geometric pattern. I also got great gilded mirrors and four amazing moroccan carpets all for under $200.
If you're into travelling, there are so many fantastic deals to be had for home furnishings in Morocco, Thailand and India. It's also really inexpensive to ship items home to North America from these countries. Even large furniture items. A lot of tourist markets even have post offices dedicated to just that. It couldn't be easier or more fun- or cheaper!

What about travel costs mixed with shipping and duties? That must add up..
I just got my poufs delivered from here and they are great quality. The colors are amazing as well.

I suggest purchasing them where John Derien gets them. Timbuktu on 2nd Ave. between 3rd & 4th St. Great Moroccan store that gets new stuff in all the time. Run by an amazing Moroccan guy who designs many of the goods.

Great moroccan hand sewn leather ottoman or pouf, a great add and a great touch of Morocco to any room, used for low-seating arrangements around a table or a living room set. The hand-dyed and hand-stitched leather creates a festive piece of moroccan home decor. Great soft leather, great workmanship, very elegant.
The poof comes unstuffed, the poof has a zipper in the bottom so you can stuff it with old used clothes, any fabric, old towels.....click here to view our moroccan poofs selection, lower prices, great quality, great leather...
